if the unit was purchased less than three years ago you can still get it covered under warranty as addressed on microsoft by clicking here. this is actually a serious problem and effects a few consoles, much like the RROD if it is not under warranty you can try doing this and i stress the not. Make sure of this by calling microsoft before attempting this. if you do not want to do the overheat fix i suggest either A. find a company that fixes xbox's and provides a real reflow. Not a heatgun and a fan. But a actual infrared reflow station. or B. Send it to microsoft and pay the money to get it repaired. or C. sell it on your local craigslist or to someone that repairs them locally and use the money to buy a new xbox 360 slim or a used xbox 360 that is working but then someone might have already done the overheat trick and it may not have much life left.

i have done this before and after he 2nd time i sent it to a company to reflow the xbox for 30 dollars. An i havent had a problem since. remember what is done in the video is only if your not covered under the extended warranty or e74

E74 error message can indicate the general hardware failure that is associated with three flashing red lights error on the console. As a result, we have decided to cover repairs related to the E74 error message under our three-year warranty program for certain general hardware failures that was announced in July 2007. We have already made improvements to the console that will reduce the likelihood of an occurrence of this issue. Detailed information related to the Xbox 360 warranty and resources for those who require repair can be found at www.xbox.com/support (www.xbox.com/support) .

Microsoft will refund to customers the amount paid for an Out of Warranty repair due to a general hardware failure associated with the E74 error message. Those customers should automatically receive the refund within 4-12 weeks, and no additional action by customers should be necessary. Customers can choose to receive either a refund to their credit card or a check refund. Checks should be received no later than the end of July. If you have any question regarding refund status, contact Xbox Customer Support at: http://www.xbox.com/support/contact .

Got on red light,E74

An E74 error is when the lower-right quadrant of the ring piece indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple languages: "E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support". The error is caused when there's a video problem with the Xbox's hardware scaler chip being damaged. As of April 14, 2009, the E74 error is now covered by the three-year extended warranty.

You will see the following indicator on the front panel of your Xbox 360 console, which will repeatedly flash on and off:
