Question about NetGear FM114P Cable/DSL ProSafe 802.11b Wireless Firewall (FM114PGE) Router

2 Answers

FM114P and W311 ( cannot connect )

Works fine without encription ( WEP )
But when you use the encription function, a message saying that there is "limited or no connectivity" is displayed. When you check the "status" and identify the I address, one has been assigned. By manually putting the IP address in the Internet Protocol ( TCP/IP ) page, connection is established. However, when you look at the status again, you will realise that you can only SEND but not RECEIVE. !!!!

Any suggestions ?

Make sure that the wep key you enter is correct and it is case sensitive (64 bit or 128 bit)

You have to log in to the router and set the WEP phrase and then use the same phrase on the computer to connect. Exactly how you do it depends on how the router is set up and what operating system you are using on your computer.

I have bought this equipment, and i wish to make a secure connection and add other laptops and computers. but everytime i do so, i loose the connection, i wish to use the wi-fi protected set up

If you want to use secure wireless connection just use WEP or WPA security encription for wireless. Protected set up does not do this. This is for in house laptop connections. In the wireless tap of your netgear choose manual set up or wireless security option and then choose WEP or WPA option. You will have to make a key and put this key in to every wireless device in house. Hope this helps.

This is a link to manual for your router.

I still can not find my WEP Key. When I enter 192.168.1.1, it tells me the site is having issues. Is there another way to find it?

you have to set this, this is not a give by the device, the key has to match bouth units for them to work, and the same type in encription has to be used can not mix them wont work,,

would turn off encription see if it works, if so then set them bouth up with the same key

I have a DI 614+ and enabled WEP 64 bit encription. How do I know the wireless network is secure? thanks

If you already enable WEP on the router the wireless network is already secure , to double check use a wireless computer and if you view available wireless network it should display your wireless name with a lock on it and when you try to connect that should be asking you for the WEP key.....

I think someone is hacking into my wireless connection, how do i set up a WEP code?

General all routers have a wireless tab when you get into the setup screen. If your computer can support I suggest to go with wpa2 mixed encription. They can break into wep in about 15 seconds now with a pogram aircrack.

WRT54GS V.4 w/ 1.06.3 if web password is on laptop will not conn.

I dont have an answer but a question and a suggestion. Why are you messing with it if it works?

I suggest set all at default and then if you are concerned about security, go into your setup and turn off "broadcast" so others cannot see your router.

If you need more ... go into each device, get the MAC address for each. Go back to router setup and allow only those MAC addresses that you have on your network.

Im not a pro ... I have never been a fan of router encription. There are simpler ways to get security in my view.

I hope this helps you

Encryption

To secure your belkin wireless network you need to type http://192.168.2.1 into your internet explorer or click on the link in this message.
On the left menu click on security,
Down the box choose 64 bit WEP OR 128 bit WEP.
Select Automatically generate hex pairs using Pass Phrass by placing a tick.
Type in a Pass Phrass in the box and click Apply Changes.
It will open a new window with encription key.
Write it down and keep it a good place.
Close your browser and you are done.
Click on your network icon to search for wireless, when found your network SSID, double click to connect and a pop up window will ask for the encription key.
Type in the key and confirm it and that's all the game.
Hope that help.
