i dont think it matter if your system detects it as sata or ide, both interface will work in installing OS, the important thing is you changed your boot order. originally it was supposed to boot in 1st drive whichever it is hard drive or dvd drive. go to bios then follow the instruction in how to move the order of boot sequence, mine is SHIFT key then PLUS.
Assuming that /media/cdrom0/ is the location of CD/DVD-ROM
To mount CD/DVD-ROM:
sudo mount /media/cdrom0/ -o unhide
To unmount CD/DVD-ROM:
sudo umount /media/cdrom0/ I wonder if maybe the DVD is there, but it hasn't been mounted so try this above...usually Ubuntu should pick up the DVD and assign a generic driver. If it isn't there and you cannot mount it, then maybe it's faulty? You need to test it, on another PC.Hopefully this will help.
1. Go to Hardware Profile and Remove your Asus ROM profile. 2. Shutdown your Machine - 3. Remove the Asus ROM from your Sata Connector. 4. Turn your Computer ON without that ROM 5. Shutdown it again, and Reconnect your ROM to those Sata connectors 6. Comment back here if still not working. :)
1) buy a sata harddrive (faster then ide), use the ide for the second harddrive (backup) and cd/dvd rom
2) buy a sata cd/dvd rom use the ide on both harddrives (1 set to slave)
3) depends on your budget, buy a sata drive + sata cd/dvd rom so your main drive is on sata (faster than ide) then you only have your second drive as your backup drive on ide.
i had the same problem when i rebuilt mine, i went for the seperate harddrive and cd/dvd rom and my 320 gb ide as my backup drive
sorry to jump on this post aswell, see what others think
Does your laptop have a DVD drive? It is likely that the Sims Double Deluxe disk you have is a DVD ROM and not a CD ROM.
If this is not the case, try clicking My Computer and selecting the CD drive to see if the computer recognises the disk at all. Run setup.exe if it does.
at first remove the dvd rom. check it is primary or secondary slave selected it. then add the dvd rom. go to the bios options. check the dvd rom position. selected is secondary dvd rom. check the power cable. icon can change it does not mater. you need to open the dvd rom.
I had the same problem with the GH22 Internal drive on vista. Assuming this is the only cd drive you have, just go to the device manager and remove/uninstall anything under "DVD/CD Rom Drives" then restart. It should get picked up and recognized properly. It took a couple of restarts to work. For refrence, I only have the LG GH22NP20 installed, what appears in device manager are 2 items... (1)HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20 SCSI CdRom Device... (2) KU1051Q EAG855E SCSI CdRom Device... Incase you have multiple cd drives, this should help tell em appart. Enjoy. IDK399
