    Your motherboard can not handle more then 2GB, this means you can not have more then 2GB installed.

Can you upgrade to 4 gigs of memory even though it says 2gigs on the eMachines EL1200-05w

@stuart252

I don't recommend upgrading the computer's RAM because this computer only supports up to 2Gb at max, if you upgrade it to 4Gigs (2pcs 2Gb), the machine may not boot up at all.

Cheers

My emachine w3115 runs but there is no video signal on my screen

try hooking it up to an external monitor through your vga jack and see if the sceen appears on the external monitor first. if so then its most likely a bad back light on your laptop screen or inverter

Upgrade problems

Your system comes stock with one stick of DDR2 (512 MB), which means that it is _ not_ dual channel DDR2 memory as dual channel DDR2 must be installed in matched pairs. Try to exchange the new memory for 2G of some single channel DDR2.

Memory Upgrade and Computer will not boot

You need to do a BIOS Upgrade. First get the name of your BIOS when the computer boots up. Then go to the we site and find your BIOS brand and get a version update or upgrade.

Be VERY careful and follow the directons to the letter.

Let me know if this helps.
