Hi there.. i own this olympus E-500... and like some other dude, i got the problem that all my pics are blue .. so i decided to try a reset.. but in the menu the "costum reset setting" is grey and not blue like the other options, and not choiceable... when i press the arrow down, it just jumps over the option "costum reset settings" and goes futher on to the "picture mode" option ... what to do?
Do a manual reset: remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on. However, this blue picture problem doesn't sound like a reset will fix it.
Testimonial: "ey ... well, i took my cam to the store.. and the man did excact what u said ... and it worked... so ehm .. u were right ;P "
The "Blue picture" is a problem i had and was easily solved. Check your white balance on the back of the camera and set it back to autoThe "Blue picture" is a problem i had and was easily solved. Check your white balance on the back of the camera and set it back to auto

You may have the white balance set to something other than "auto white balance". If the pics look ok on the camera and on your computer, but the prints are blue, I would suspect the printer.
You have not said w2hether these are daylight pics or pics taken inside under halogen lights. The later requires a blue filter.
Daylight pics that show blue are set to the wrong Kelvins in your menu. Set the camera back to factory settings and make a note of the Kelvins ( temperature scale) that is the standard setting.. You can manipulate the color of the pics taken in certain light by moving the scale upward to warm the pic in overcast situations or down in bright light to remove red cast that some light or lights ( bulbs) tend tp create in pics.
Turn the camera mode dial to P - press Menu button - camera 1 tab is highlighted - right arrow over to Card Setup - down arrow to custom reset setting - right arrow to reset and press Ok - highlight Yes and press Ok. The camera should be back in factory defaults.
you will need to try to reset the camera first through the camera menu by placing the camera mode to P, press menu, right arrow to card, down one to custom reset, right arrow, ok, yes to reset. else you will need to send to repair center
Not sure if this will help, but it seemed to fix my issue......I used a freshly charged battery. Removed both xD and Compact Flash memory from the camera. Powered on. You will see the menu flash and read that there is no card inserted. Power down. Place memory back in the camera. I can't explain my issue. The camera may have gone into a stand-by mode until the battery died and it just needed a reset? Anyway, hope this can be of use to someone. =0)
I did not solve the software problem of retrieval of pics & decided not respond to your email to pay for premium assitance with promise of maybe an answer. Thought it would be posted and might get an answer from someone suffering the same.
So, I will solve the problem by reshooting my pics and deleting the Olympus software for future use.
I don't have a solution for the blue... mine does that too sometimes. But I did just figure out how to get rid of the hilite on screen - just keep pressing the info button until it is clear.
i have the same problem. i dont think the flash is working.. i think the bulb needs replacing. i wish i knew a place to get it fixed or a place to buy a bulb...
