Propane pilot light on water heater will not light

When the gas is turned on the pilot light will not light. The gas is working because the stove will light and the pilot on the stove will light. Professional help is unavailable because it is in a remote area. Nearest plumber is over 100 miles away.

the stove and water heater are seperate. The only reason I mentioned the stove is because they are both gas. The fact that the stove will light . The pilot on the water heater will not light at all ever.
    Thanks

My 2000 Keystone Cabana Hot Water Heater Pilot Will Not Light. The Stove Is Gas And Works So The LP Is Moving Through The System. I Removed The Fitting To See If Maybe The Orifice Was Plugged, It's Not. I Have Not Removed The Gas Line Into The Thermal Controller So I'm Not Sure If Fuel Is Going Into It, I'm Just Assuming. I Hear Many Saying Replace The Thermal Coupler. Will This Part Keep The Fuel From Passing Into The Pilot Chamber?

Oh, I get it now. Replace the thermocouple. You should be able to get one at a good hardware store or on-line.

My pilot light control switch will not return to Off or pilot it is stuck in the On position.

Question edited for funky spelling of 'pilot', (piolt light)..

You posted to the Cars and Trucks category, what year make and model is it? :>D

This sounds like some type of gas appliance, stove, fire or central heating furnace? It is gas and can only be worked on by a registered gas service technician.

'make model (what is is)' in all question of this type please.
'year make model' in all vehicle questions please.

I have a Dearborn heater propane will not light worked fine last winter had lines tape off model DRC303

Propane and natural gas heaters have standing pilot ignition or electronic ignition. If you have a standing pilot ignition you should see if the pilot light stays on when lit and after the valve is turned to the full ON position after lighting. Electronic ignition should light the pilot for you and then the burner comes on - but at the end of the cycle the pilot and the burner go off. If you do not have ignition, check the gas pressure -- 5-7 inches of water column for natural gas and 11-15 inches of water column for propane. Use the pressure noted on the regulator or other labeling. If you cannot test the pressure then contact your gas company or propane supplier for service.

We just replaced the propane gas line. Our stove is gas and it lights, but neither of our gas water heaters will light. Both water heaters are new and have been working for about 4 months before the...

You have to purge the air from the lines.
At the water heater, take a wrench and loosen the gas line until you smell gas coming from the line. Then tighten the gas line. Check it for leaks with a soapy water solution. Let the gas smell clear, then light the pilot on the heater.

Propane was turned off for unrelated problem propane turned back on stove will not lite

If your stove has a standing pilot, it will need to be re-lit.

If this does not help, state the model of your stove.

My propane heater not working right

This could be due to insufficient gas pressure. When you turn the knob to get the flames going, observe the pilot light. If it gets smaller, or burns with less intensity, it means you have insufficient gas pressure. If the pilot light gets smaller, the temperature of the thermocouple drops, so the electrical current produced by the thermocouple also drops. The stove interprets this drop in voltage to mean that the oxygen level in the room has dropped (because a drop in oxygen content likewise would cause the pilot light to get smaller).
