My mac os 9.2 will start up then while loading it will freez

Since you have an Intel Mac book you can boot to DOS 6.22 and use Fdisk to remove your partition at which point you can format it and install Mac OS.

10.6 will not work with a g3 processor as it requires an intel mac to run it.

Yes you can remove these applications without causing problem in OS X. I think however you'd be happier wiping the hard drive (AFTER backing up any files you need) and installing OS X fresh without the OS 9 feature; not only would you save quite a bit of hard drive space but you'll see the machine run quicker.

Boot it from the installation DVD. Run a few utilities. If it freezes up, you have a hardware problem. If it doesn't freeze up, you most probably have damaged the OS, and should reload the OS using "archive and install" to preserve your user files. Since this is a Clamshell, I should mention that these are the recovery options for OS ; OS 9 requires a different approach.

If you need a newer version of Mac OS , you would have to purchase it. Mac OS does not update from 9.1 to 10.X
Mac 9.1 is about 10 years old.

In May 2002, at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, Steve Jobs, accompanied by a coffin, held a mock funeral[5] to announce that Apple had stopped development of Mac OS 9. Mac OS 9.2.2, introduced in December 2001, was the final version of Mac OS 9, and the end of the classic Mac OS.

Unfortunately, you cannot do anything without the original CDs. You can take it to the Apple Store and see if they will reinstall Mac OS 9 for you. Or, you can buy the newer Mac OS, but on a computer that was running Mac OS 9, I doubt OS X will work.

The last solution is installing Linux as your operating system.

It could be a hard drive problem or it could just be a software issue. Given the model, it could be running System 9 or X or both. If it is 9 it just may need to be blessed. The disc you are trying to load sounds model specific as opposed to Apple's retail discs which will load on any of their models capable of running that particular operating system. Whether it is worth fixing is really a judgement call, if you have use of a 2nd machine a hard drive / install disc can be had for cheap enough, as far as resell value, I would say no.
