Question about Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Hoover windtunnel Not sure of model number- but brush roller clamps down on carpet being vacuumed and stops spinning regardless of which of the 3 height selections is selected. Can make it work by leveraging the handle down (or back towards me) to keep the cleaning head a little off of the carpet-any suggestions or ideas?

Re: Hoover windtunnel

Would suggest the drive belt is stretched and thus is slipping when contact is made with the carpet.

As I was vacuuming my vacuum cleaner stopped working

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Your Hoover Windtunnel may have stopped working for several reasons. First, make sure that your unit is properly plugged into an electrical outlet and make sure the electrical outlet is working correctly. Vacuum units, and other appliances, protect themselves from sudden electrical charges, ups and downs. Make sure the electrical fuse and breaker are on, if not reset breaker.

Some units may heat up and will automatically shut themselves down to prevent fires. Allow your unit to cool down for 30 minutes while the thermal protector is automatically reset. Overheating, may have been caused by a clogged hose, dirty filters, full bags or a roller brush that is not running properly. All these situations compromise the unit's air flow and make the unit work harder, making it to heat up.

To avoid these situations and to keep your unit running at it's maximum capacity, make sure to change filters regularly (recommended every 3-6 months), clean your brush roll from any tangled hair strands or debris monthly (roller brushes are recommended to be replaced at least yearly), and replace belts every 6 months.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Hoover Windtunnel model U6485200B troubleshooting brush not spinning

Hi! The brush-roll feature needs to be engaged for the belt to tighten, so when checking the belt it will appear to be loose. Be sure you have replaced both belts on the vacuum with genuine Hoover parts. This unit takes belt 38528034 and 38528035. Also, make sure the vacuum is on carpet mode. Follow the link to view the instruction manual which provides instructions and illustrations on changing the belt to be sure it is assembled properly.

Hope this helps!

Brush won't spin on hoover wind tunnel bag less upright when on carpet, belts are fine

The belts may look fine but may be stretched and worn. Replace them. Make sure brush spins free. Idler pulley should tighten belt tension when handle is released

I'm getting no suction and the brushes are not rotating

Hello! If you are using the cleaner on carpet, it is necessary for the brushes to rotate to assist the motor with maximum pick up. If your brushes are not spinning check the belt to make sure it isn't broken or stretched. The belt will need replacing about once a year. Below are steps for checking the belt on your U5399-900.

1. Place handle in low position and turn cleaner over so bottom side is up.
2. Remove the 4 screws. Lift off bottom plate.
3. Inspect the belt for rips and tears. If it is damaged in any way, broken or stretched replace the belt

This unit takes belt 38528033. Be sure you replace belt with genuine Hoover parts. Here is a link where you may go to order a replacement belt.

Hoover windtunnel - brushes spin fine when it's upside down but when it makes contact witht the carpet it stops completely. Is this the belts?

your belt is stretch out get a new belt.but before you put the new belt on clean the motor shaft .theres usually burnt rubber left on the shaft.if you don't clean it off the new belt won't last very can use a fine piece of emery cloth to take the rubber off and back down to the polished finish on the shaft.and while your at it and you have the brush roller off clean it good.check the ends to make sure they turn freely.sometimes carpet strands get wrapped around the ends.those ends come off ,some unscrew and some just pull off

Hoover WindTunnel Self-Propelled V Belt

when you released the end to slide the new belt on it allows the tension roller to slide into the wrong position. Remove the top so that you can see the roller, at the left side of the roller mechanism there is a screw, loosen it enough to allow the roller to return to the correct position.
good luck

Brush roller on windtunnel won't spin

It sounds like you need to replace the actuator arm or the cable to it. Look for Hoover part 43143046 for a start. I've got a similar problem.

No Suction in Hoover U6450-900

If there is no suction, check the filters, if they are clean then there has to be a clog either in the hose or in the inlet down by the brush roll. See if there is suction at the hose end. If there is, then it is clogged down lower. Are you sure that the brush roll is turning when it is on the carpet? For a manual, go to, put on your model number, if one is available, you can down load it.
