Hoover windtunnel Not sure of model number- but brush roller clamps down on carpet being vacuumed and stops spinning regardless of which of the 3 height selections is selected. Can make it work by leveraging the handle down (or back towards me) to keep the cleaning head a little off of the carpet-any suggestions or ideas?

Hi! The brush-roll feature needs to be engaged for the belt to tighten, so when checking the belt it will appear to be loose. Be sure you have replaced both belts on the vacuum with genuine Hoover parts. This unit takes belt 38528034 and 38528035. Also, make sure the vacuum is on carpet mode. Follow the link to view the instruction manual which provides instructions and illustrations on changing the belt to be sure it is assembled properly.

The second one is common.

The belt is stretched and needs replacement.(Belt # 38528036) . The brush is not turning against resistance.

this is the part for the belt, 38528036. you can get it at sears website or service center. also make sure you clean the caps on the side of the brush. take them out and remove hair and dirt. put a little or mineral oil and install them back.

check the belt it may be stretched or broken...also carpet and hair or other debris around the bruches may have it in a bind,,..remove the 2 screws holding the bottom on to check this

your belt is stretch out get a new belt.but before you put the new belt on clean the motor shaft .theres usually burnt rubber left on the shaft.if you don't clean it off the new belt won't last very long.you can use a fine piece of emery cloth to take the rubber off and back down to the polished finish on the shaft.and while your at it and you have the brush roller off clean it good.check the ends to make sure they turn freely.sometimes carpet strands get wrapped around the ends.those ends come off ,some unscrew and some just pull off

Sounds like you have a bad brush roll(48414115), take it out and see the the ends turn freely or not, if not, then replace it. Also check the the slots that the brush roll sits in to make sure they haven't melted. I am assuming that the motor is running, if not, then it may have froze up.
