You can check if you have a DVD connected to your laptop by simply going to your My Computer.
If you can't see your DVD rom on there, you can go to your Device Manager to double check.
You can go to your Device Manager by clicking on the Start Menu button, then drag your mouse pointer to your My Computer icon then right click on it.
Choose Properties then click on the Hardware tab. You can find the DVD/CDROM Drives.
If it's still not there, you may need to call Aspire to see how you can go about with it.
As far as burning data to your DVD or ripping data off from it, you will need a burning software for that.
You will need to get a copy of Nero. That's what I use to burn data to my DVD or rip data from your DVD to your laptop.
