If you've had the mouse for a few years, the battery could be fading. They'll recharge fine for quite a long time but the end is imminent. The battery can be replaced, though Logitech would prefer you don't know it. I found the most complete instructions at: http://www.fixya.com/support/t244267-laser_mouse_mx_1000_logitech

How do I reverse the movement of the pointer in my mouse? I have got the wheel working but not the buttons for the pointers

Don't throw the batteries away without testing them.. If they are good reinsert them and check if the problem is resolved. I no longer bother with the battery check, poor mouse response happens when the battery is low. I just pop out one battery and reinsert it. It never takes more than twice to make it behave :)

Suddently gone dark

Try to plug it in a different USB port. If the problem persist, try it on another computer or laptop. If it still makes the same problem, you will know it's because of the mouse.

Computer does not respond to mouse. Move from pad

Do you mean you might used it on you lap rather than the desk and have changed the angle of the mouse? It will be the lazer, (if changing the angle of the mouse works). Disruptions occur with the lazer, hey they don't wear like a ball mouse does. You can have it repaired, just have to decide if it is cheaper or easier to just replace it. (Tip, don't leave it in direct sunlight when you are away from the computer. It shortens the life of a lazer mouse).

Mouse moves eratically and doesn't respond

In my mind it's just a couple things. The mouse or the port. Hopefully you haven't removed(or plugged in) the mouse plug when the laptop was turned on. [Only a USB can be plugged/unplugged when the computer is on.]
Try getting a new mouse. If that doesn't work you may have to have it taken in and have it looked at. Good luck.

Logitech mouse doesn't respond to my clicks

Even though it does not make sense, if you are using a wireless keyboard that is part of a combo pack (mouse included) sometimes (some brands) you have to plug in all cords on the keyboard/mouse receiver.
