How can I tell if it is the heater element or a fuse or a thrermostat?
Use a meter that will read A/C Voltage. It is really the only way to narrow it down completely. Start with the element and check voltage there. If you are getting 240v with the dryer running and calling for heat and the element does not get hot, then you have your problem solved. If there is not 240v there, then work backwards till you find out where the circuit is open. This can be time consuming and difficult to find and get to all the different limit controls and switches.
