If you cannot purchase a Recovery CD from IBM/Lenovo then you can download the device drivers from their WEB support site.
To restore your T30 back to the original Windows beg borrow etc a Windows installation CD. This CD must match the Windows version on the label on the bottom of your T30, it also displays the Product Code and this is used to install Windows on your T30.

Follow these instruction to download and install the T30's device drivers.
The same model ThinkPad can have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless you know exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download all the drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver.
When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it’s file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive.
Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista device drivers for your model computer, Use this link: -

You can download the various drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they will then unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install the various drivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

While I was not able to find that specific model of laptop, I was able to locate the CDRW Bay and based on my research this bay only supports the following models. Though it may look the same and even have the same interface, if it is not in the supported model list, it will not properly function.

You can get the drivers for the IBM Thinkpad online under www.ibm.com support tab. Fill in the information about your machine and you can download a free copy of the driver.

Go to Lenovo dot com, they are the new owners of the ThinkPad brand, not IBM.

You don't need to buy a drivers CD, to install the drivers for this laptop, you can install them for free. Just go to Lenova Support & downloads, find the Lenova Thinkpad R61 laptop, and go to the Software & Drivers download page.

Download "DRIVER MAX" it will automaticlly find devices, and find the drivers for them, then you choose what to update. And best of all it's free.

Call IBM/Lenovo. For about $60, they will provide a complete set of "Recovery CDs" for the ThinkPad. That software will include a DVD-player and the correct sound-drivers. Or, check IBM's "support" web-site -- you may be able to download the correct drivers.
