You will have to contact Garmin support and have them change the registration which is matched to an e-mail address and the unit serial number. Device registration on Garmin's site is a "security feature" for two reasons: 1: People can buy lifetime map upgrades for a particular peice of hardware, and 2: GPS units are very high-theft devices.

E-mail support with the details (proof) of your purchase and ask them to change or reset the ownership information for your unit's serial number.

When registrating your GPS on myGarmin you should type in your serial number. It's on a tiny label on the back/bottom of the unit, and is the identification number needed to start the registrating process. Your GPS will need to be connected to the PC on the next step.

Did you try to upgrade your Garmin with 2008 maps? If you have the map registration code then you will have to go to garmin's website and get an unlock code. You will need the registration code and also the unit serial number before you can get a new unlock code. The unlock code is base upon your unit serial number and will only work with that unit.
