Is this a fuse problem? It was on for about five hours straight last night and I was in the kitcen. I heard a series of pops and then a strange smell and I walked in the living room and the picture had stopped. I unplugged it and plugged it in again. Red light came on but no power. Now the red light does not come on at all.
PLEASE HELP. I have replaced parts successfully before. What do I need to replace this time? Is it a fuse or what?
Check the High Voltage transformer ( Flyback transformer ). I have also found a bad High Voltage Wire ( the big red wires coming from the voltage combiner devise to the picture tubes). Since the set is now dead also, you may also need to look at the fuses and also check the Horizontal Transistor. Good luck. This may be a timely and harder repair.

Yes, the component you are describing sounds like the splitter ( combiner as some call it ) It's not a real expensive devise, but also remember, you mentioned the set in now dead, so you also have another problem in addiotion to the burmed out splitter. as for changing the splitter, it's not real diffacult, but you need to excersize extreme caution when working with those big red wire going to the picture tubes, as they can store high voltage for a long time ( somtimes months ). I'm talking 35,000 volts so be careful. ( there is a discharge method that technitions use to prevent getting shocked). If it were me, I would get some prices for the splitter and go from there. you might be surprised to see it's less than 100 dollars.Good Luck

Usually answered in minutes!
okay, i took a look inside and there is a box with large tubular things sticking out and wires coming from them. It looks FRIED. Is this called a splitter? The number on the box is FFA97513B and under that 02052903S. Would that cause that kind of problem?
Is that an easy fix? Is it worth ordering the part? I need to go figure out how much that would be.
Thanks.
Awesome. thanks so much. thanks for the cautionary comment on the voltage. I am happy to have avoided a nasty ZAP!!!!
