Bad iron I am in the same boat as all of you. I iron quite a bit and so i thought I'd buy a Black n Decker, thinking Black n Decker is a well known name in home products, but I am about ready to throw the darn thing out the window. Theres day's it works fine and then theres days it keeps shutting off on me. It never fails, when I fill it with water, I seem to have the most problem with it. The red light might come on for a few seconds and then it all of a sudden shuts off. Anyone, please let me know if there is an iron out there that works like a gem. Thanks

I HAVE THE DIGITAL ADVANTAGE AND IT ALSO GOES OFF AND IT DISPLAYS 8 STAND OFF

  • Anonymous Sep 23, 2008

The light on the iron keeps turning off and then I get no heat. When I turn it up it heats for a few moments and then shuts off again. I am very disappointed, I thought I could trust the Black and Decker brand.

I would look for the simlpest type of iron.
One without electronics built in and a manual setting.
When combining steam and heat, sensitive electronics don't do well.
I have seen reviews about your iron and many are bad ones.

My Black & Decker Even-Tempered iron is plugged in, and it won't turn off. I can't unplug it.

It sounds like your even-tempered iron is in a bad temper! I can think of no reason that you couldn't pull the plug from the wall socket.

There is no iron of that model name, so I am puzzled by whole thing in your 'Anonymous' post.

Disconnect the power at the breaker. Cut the wire with side cutters and throw the iron in the bin. Remove the wall socket from the wall and replace with a new one and throw that in the bin as well. Buy a new Rowenta next time.

Tool to disassemble Black & Decker D2030 Digital Advantage Iron.

It will be a Security Screw Nancy. There are a few different types, Torx is the most common, but others have a triangular slot and are popular on domestic irons. You need a set of security screwdrivers or screwdriver bits. Or you can take the iron down to Home Depot and ask someone in the tool department.

Have to hold cord in or it shuts off

I know it's a bit late, but I had the same problem, and fixed it in a similar fashion to kcquidproquo's answer. I have a blog post about it with pictures over at http://racingcow.wordpress.com/2012/05/13/black-decker-d2030-iron-repair/. Hopefully it will help someone.

The red power light comes on but the digital display doesn't always come on

The red power light indicates that your main power is getting to your iron and the digital display not working indicates that you have a problem with your iron electronics control circuit: if still under warranty, return it to be fixed otherwise consider buying a new iron as the repair cost in general can be quite high for 'electronic' iron (unless you have a handyman available!).

Hope it helps.

The black and decker iron wont heat up

It probably has a high temp overload opened up inside or the thermostat control has gone bad.You can only tell for sure by taking the unit apart and testing the circuit for continuity. The steam feature on the iron is heated by the same element that heats the iron so it wont work.the element itself could also be bad,but I have never seen one go bad.You will have to check each component seperately to find the damaged part.or you can test the whole circuit at the plugs end,and use a jumper across each part until you have continuity through the unit.Make sure the thermostat is turned all the way up.the part that you are bypassing when you get continuity is the bad part.
You can buy a cheap continuity checker at any lowes,or even wallmart for that matter.
