I have a Kodak dx4530. Recently, when I push the shutter button to take a picture, the square inside the viewer turns from blue to red and slightly shrinks...nothing happens but when I push the button again, it takes the picture and immediately shuts off. I've replaced the battery and memory card and still have the same problem. Any idea on how to fix this?

The battery is brand new and fully charged. It doesn't matter if I hold the camera or try to use the self timer by placing it on a flat surface, it still shuts off. In fact, you actually have to push the button twice for it to take the picture...the first time the square in the viewer turns red and nothing happens..once you press it the second time, it will actually take the picture but shuts off.

The camera is not recommending the picture, It could be overexposed, shaky or taken in the wrong SCN.

Make sure that you are installing a fresh/ full charge battery
Remove the battery
Clean the metal contacts on the battery using a clean cloth

Pls. use lithium batteries Ni-Mh or rechargeable Batteries (2000 M.Amp or higher).

It appears that pictures are being taken with the lens cap on - when that's not the case. In other words all camera indications are that the picture is "taken", but it is a black square. I'm thinking a...

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help:

Black pictures kodak dx4530

Is this intermittedly or constant? Do you receive a lens error?
However due to spare part shortage this model is no longer repaired. Instead KODAK offers a trade up option where you will have the opportunity to trade up to a newer model 25-30% cheaper than the market price.

I have a dx4530 and when I take pictures, the screen is black. My guess is that there is a battery inside for the shutter and the battery needs to be replaced.

No unfortunantly this is the mechanics of the camera.
DX4530 is no longer repaired by KODAK due to lack of spear parts.

However thay do offer a Trade up option where you can trade your existing camera for a favorable price to a Brand new model.

Problematic Camera

I just discovered that the real problem is a STICKY SHUTTER BUTTON, staying down after taking a picture. This prevents the green ready light from coming on until I jiggle the shutter button. It has actually started to be hard to press, making a definite clicking sound as it goes down. I can even feel it catch on something. If I move it around a bit, it will eventually come up, allowing the ready light to reset. Can this be cleaned? How about adding a drop of WD40 or something? Anybody ever take one of these apart? Any tips as to how to do it safely??? Thanks.

Defective View Window

Pardon me saying this but ... you have an optical viewfinder so the only reason I can think of is that you are not looking directly through it and being off centre it darkens etc. Do you wear glasses? They put the eye further back and that can contribute to this effect. Otherwise check it out at the shop where you bought.
