Heather, if the garage installed the part then they should fix what's wrong with the abs. If you installed it yourself then go to the auto store and have them clear the code that's still in the abs. If the light goes out and stays out after driving awhile your good to go, but if the light comes back on then it could be the wiring or connector are even the wheel hub assembly. there is a short in system is the abs or brake light on if bothe are on you may have a shorted wheel speed sensor

although the ABS uses the brake system it functions independently and is comprised of mostly electrical components. Worn brake pads will not effect the abs systems function.

What you need to do is have the ABS system scanned for codes. This will give you a much clearer idea of the direction to go in order to solve the problem. Since the light comes on and stay on after you start the vehicle the ABS system has a failure in its self check. Common causes of this are bad wheel speed sensors but there are numerous other possibilities.

If you have an ohm meter you can check the resistance of all the wheel speed sensors. if one is not simular to the others than that would be a good place to start.

The ABS light is on because you have a code stored in your ABS module. It is a good idea to bring it to a shop that has an ABS scanner to determine the problem. They can tell you precisely which wheel sensor is bad or which ABS component is faulty. There is one wheel sensor at each wheel, directly over the exciter ring at each hub. If you want to scan the code yourself, you will need a Ford Super Star II tester or an equivalent scan tool to access the ABS system. Take a look at the front and rear ABS notched rotors, and make sure they are not caked up with debris, oil or dirt because the sensors read these notches.

sounds like a speed sensor

Check what sensor type is fitted - i.e. can run off hub magnet ring, or may be older type peak/trough driveshaft ring that runs next to wheel abs sensor. If you've changed the hub parts then the sensor or sensor wiring is the best place to start with. You may need use of a diagnostic tool to check the wheel sensor works when spinning the wheel.

generally when the light comes on you have a bad wheel speed sensor or abs unit soleniod . the wheel speeed sensor might be all part of the wheel bearing itself .the brakes will continue to work properly you just wont have the anti lock feature

probably the shuttle valve in the ABS unit is defective, solution renew shuttle valve, dont let dealership sell you a new ABS unit very expensive
