Take out the 6 screws, 2 left, 2 right 2 bottom next to battery compartment. Carefully remove case back (separates at join of matt silver/chrome edge and lever apart. a tiny ribbon cable will still be attached, so don't be impatient and be really gentle. Once apart, the battery can be seen lying in the case and can easily be levered out with a plastic or wooden implement. - an ice-cream lolly stick would do it! Replacement is (careful) reversal of opening. - Mike N.

I had to use tweezers, which scratched up the battery a little bit.  It took a lot of patience, but I finally got the battery out.  A very poor design that the battery could even be inserted wrong!

The battery should still be removeable - have you tried to move it or turn camera so the the open chamber is facing down and tapping the camera

SOURCE: Battery inserted wrongly and now cannot remove

I did the same thing. Don't send it back. I used my fingernail (it hurt like hell), and then used a blunt end of a spoon. It doesn't break very easy, jsut don't dig in, cut it, or put force on that black plastic part.

Cannot remove battery

The type (model) of battery in use will determine the solution;

For most commercially available, consumer products, using a grounded (rubber/non-conductive handled screwdriver) is often enough to pry it loose. If extremely stuck, feeding a small length of twine or string between the battery and the device and pulling gently should be able to pry it loose.

For other rechargeable batteries (cell phones, MP3 players, etc.), you may have to find a way to insert a tool or string into the space for the battery.

Cheers.

My battery for my panasonic lumix fs16 has got stuck and cannot be removed even with tweezers. Think I may have put it in wrong way but not absolutely sure.

Usually panasonic lumix uses AA batteries and shouldnt get stuck even if fitted in the wrong way. What most likely happened is that there is some external object in the battery compartment which has gotten the battery stuck there. Try using a set of pointed pliers, this should do the trick.

This is pretty common. Get some small pliers, which are known as "duckbill" needle-nose pliers. They're flat, needle-nose pliers which will allow you to stick the tips into the small space on top and bottom of the stuck battery, and gently wiggle it out. If it's really, really wedged in, you may pull off the end cap of the battery, if you're not careful. At that point you'd still need to remove the battery's remains, and get yourself a new one (battery, not camera). I've saved several customer's cameras this way. Good luck.

Wrong battery detected.

hmmm..interesting....you may need to download the system drivers, usually for bios or other utility programs. the compatibility issue with batteries, is based on the make/model being loaded into the listings from the sysadmin for your operating system.

Battery

A tool known as "duck-billed" pliers works for the stuck in the wrong way battery syndrome. They are flat-nosed, pliers of the "needle-nose" variety.
