Some web-based forums discerned this as posssible registry problems. When I went back ut to pick up the norton updates, and to check out some registry cleaners, I was told that I should've deleted the old ''pre-installed'' drivers before installing the new updates in. what do I do? How do I delete the old ''pre-installed'' software without damaging the new updated drivers...or do I have to?

It sounds like you either have a dead mother board or a bad power inlet. Did the machine work with the new battery while it was charged? If so, then the battery connector was good and the inlet was bad. If not, your motherboard could be dead. I've also seen where a bad battery connector would syphon off enough power to not power on the machine or charge the battery.

E74: AV cable error... There is a problem with the AV cable, try
using a different AV cable. If the cable is known to be working then there
is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip
connected directly to the AV cable) in rare cases it is the GPU.
