What is the date of manufacture of your XBox 360? You have a warranty up to THREE YEARS against E74 errors with Microsoft. If it's beyond 3 years, I know of a company that can fix it up for you pretty cheap and give you a decent warranty.
This can be caused by dirty laser in the drive. Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip and alcohol. If this does not fix the problem, the laser may need to be replaced. Contact Microsoft and see if the unit is still under warranty.
If the unit is not under warranty go to www.wiredextreme.com. We are a console repair company based in Texas, and we can clean/replace the laser for you. All of our repairs come with a 90 day warranty that covers the whole console, not just what we repaired. We also offer extended warranties up to 4 years at additional cost. If you have any other questions/concerns feel free to email [email protected] or call toll free 1-888-389-3038.
This is called the red-ring of death. Call 1-800-4my-xbox and they can help you with this situation. If you haven't had your 360 over 3 years, than they will fix it free under the warranty. Another trick others have said works, is to wrap a towel around your 360. This will heat up your xbox, and reconnect any soldering that seperated. The towel trick is only a theory I heard...not sure how much truth there is to it. Worth a shot. :D
Hi, i have heard many of such things like this with xbox from different people and the best of advice i give to them is to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Explain to them what is happening and they will find a solution, if you have had your xbox 360 for less than three years, then they will fix it totally free because the warranty is still in effect......
im really sorry about that but my best bet is too probably call microsoft up and ask em and odds are you are probably going to have to buy another controller :( and no it should not effect ur 360 warranty they are two different warrantys
you can fix it yourself but you need to know what your doing altho it is actually quite easy to do, but yes u are correct if your console has 3 red flashing lights the warranty is 3 years but only for that error, so your in luck send it back to Microsoft and they will ship a new one to u, usually takes around a week
The red light should be in the #4 controller spot. This error is caused by a few things, only one is correctable without opening the console.
Take a look at your AV cables, possibly try a friend's cables. If it still does it, you are going to need warranty work. The 360 has a 3 year warranty for most problems if you have not open or modded your console.
You could take it to a electronic repair shop, but you end up footing the bill for repairs and void your warranty. I suggest having Microsoft do the repairs for free and keeping your warranty. It will take at least 3 weeks for warranty work, that is the downside.
The two red lights is an overheating issue. It correlates with the 3 red lights. First check with Microsoft if your warranty seal is still intact and ask them if its under warranty. also there are some vary qualified technicians who guaranty their work up to 90 days.

"a period of one year (three years for conditions that cause three
lights on the ring of light on the front of the Console to flash red)
starting as of the date of your sales receipt for the purchase of the
Console, or (ii) as applied to an Accessory, a period of 90 days
starting as of the date of your sales receipt for the purchase of the
Accessory"
So 1 year from the day you buy it of any damage to it.
Then 3 year warranty of the "3 red lights" (red ring of death) couple weeks ago (including me) experienced the 3 red lights, so Microsoft extended everyone's warranty for another 3 years only on the 3 red light issue.
I've only had to send in my 360 1 time and that was of the red lights, other then that no problems.
I hope this helped, also you can connect that Xbox at 1800-4my-xbox for any questions.
