the software does not detect that a portable device is connected even when it's plugged into the computer with the USB cable. Therefore, you can't really use the program.

My iriver Gen 2 is connected to the Computer but the computer does not seem to want to detect it. Windows Media player doesn't want to detect it as well. And right after i hook it up via USB to my computer, it tends to say "OK to disconnect" on the Clix Screen. >.<My iriver Gen 2 is connected to the Computer but the computer does not seem to want to detect it. I have vista and had the same issue even though plus 3 worked the first time i installed it (might be an issue with the safely remove hardware icon not available most of the time in vista), so now i use windows media player to sync to the device and works fine

When system files are missing on the player, you will need to reinstall the FIRMWARE.
When looking online for the connection type for the H10 / H10JR, I can see 2 CONNECTION TYPES for the H10 / H10JR:
1. MTP, when using Windows Media Player 11 ( WMP11 ), for the H10.
2. iRiver Plus, when using iRiver PLUS, for the H10JR.
The connection type determines what software on the computer will be used for transferring media.
Each software on the computer needs corresponding firmware on the player to be installed. When the player itself comes up with the information to connect to iRiver PLUS, this is the correct software for this device probably. Then the device is a H10JR.
When not having the program iRiver PLUS, go to the iRiver support site, for the download: http://www.iriver.com/flash/index.asp?code=0302
In the left column click Plus3 and go for the download.
Run iriver plus 3 and then select [Tools > Portable Device > Firmware Upgrade] from the menu.
Need more help ? Just post a comment. In case you have the other model player, the H10, let me know if you need assistance for its recovery.
try to upload the songs onto it with windows media player 11
i only use iriver plus 3 for videos
when ur in windows media go into sync then it has like a side bar just drag the music into that and down the bottom of the bar it says sync press that
and if that doesnt work u might have to buy a new one
umm.. this is what i did to solve this problem. i hooked it in the back usb port then put the iriver disk in then went to start control panel printers and other hardware the on the left side add hardware the i found it on the list and instaled after that you have to use windows meda player to add music and it works just fine .
When you connect the PMP to the computer does it say your new device is ready for use or something else like 'the device has malfunctioned'?
I have the same issue that frequently the computer won't see the PMP. Keep trying it sometimes works. If not then its likely that the harddisk is dead or dying.
Yes, try running a format from your computer to the IRiver with it plugged into the USB port. I have done this with several friends MP3 players and it works great. In other words plug your MP3 player into your computer as you usually do and from windows or dos in your accessories run a regular format of the MTP portable device or whichever drive dos says it is. Then presto you can again load music or whatever your MP3 player take into it again.
My understanding, as a new user, is that IRiver plus 3 only communicates with the player via UMS mode, which is not the default. Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player only communicate through MTP mode. If you change from MTP (the default) to UMS, it will reformat the player and delete all your files.
In other words, do not use iriver plus 3 unless that is the only software that you want to use. Boing back to MTP mode after a sync or download will then delete all THOSE files you just downloaded.
Somehow the driver went missing. Click on "My Computer" and then click "view system information," then "hardware," then "device manager," then click on iRiver (it'll be there even without the driver) and then it will give you a yes/no option to look for driver software. Obviously, click "yes" but notice that you are also cued to put in a CD "if you have one." I still had the CD. It will search both the CD and online for a driver, but the computer found the driver software on the CD. Make sure you only put the CD in when cued to do so. If you don't have the CD, then contact iRiver about getting a driver download or having them send you a copy of the CD.
