Hi budd as its custom you may have the wrong size wire and to small of a amp try a bigger wire as the motor seems to be pulling to many amps for that cable and fuse

must have a short to earth ,would'nt advise using wire no matter what the situation, trace the wires and find a break or worn part , might be rubbing against a metal edge somewhere

yes fuel filter because you probably ran it out of gas you could have got the fuel pump to hot and burnt it up,(new Pump) do not know what year or model you have but may be relay or fuse as well (more info Please) !!
There are a few quick things to try before cleaning the carbs.
1.Clean your air filter, it may be choking out, trust me a dirty air filter will choke out a bike.
2.Check your spark plugs. If they are black and sooty, change them out. Its quick and less expensive.
I diagnosed a 2001 Roadking Fuel injected. Ran like ****, hardly any throttle response, died at idle.
the customer said he just had it serviced a month ago at the dealer.
I pulled the plugs and they were nasty. The dealer forgot to change out the sparkplugs. It Happens
I Put in a new set of spark plugs and the bike ran like new.
I've fixed a bunch of bikes in the past and this one always stuck in my mind because of the difference in performance.
Try the sparkplugs, i think its more likely to be that than the air filter.
well i would start at the electronic spark controller when they get hot they can couse this issue replace them all the time it is at the right side of bike down in the in front of crical cover that what it sound like next time you can get this to hapen pull plug wire see if you have spark no spark then the module is it most likely or coil but replace more module then coils
