My Janome 3018 will not wind a nice tight bobbin. They are loose and spongy. This machine is brand new. I have double checked that it is threaded properly and the thread is in the correct place and

You are not exactly threading the machine when you wind the bobbin. So follow the directions for winding the bobbin, make sure the thread fits under the little revolving wheel, and make sure that the stitch part of the machine is disengaged.

John Lewis mini sewing machine

This was really helpful for me fixing my daughter a John Lewis (janome) mini sewing machine, and now can get the bobbin thread up again, however, when you sew, the thread is not staying in stitches, just coming off the material completely. I tried forcing the gears on one more time but then it didn't pick up the bobbin thread again so went back to the other gear position. Any ideas of what to try and get it stitching again? Thanks

Winding the bobbin?

Most of the entry level machines will have either a clutch knob or an automatic release when the bobbin winder mechanizm is engaged (put a bobbin on and more the unit to you right). If it does not disengage the clutch automaticly then either loosen the clutch wheel by turing or pulling. Sometines you have to grab the whole clutch wheel to disenage the mechanism to free wheel while winding the bobbin. Now press you foot control to wind the bobbin.
