Set the screen resolution on the computer to some place like 1024x768. Use the menu buttons to resize the screen screen.
If the monitor is not keeping the settings it can be an indication to get a new monitor.

The simplest answer is to replace the monitor. You have what is called an "imminent failure", meaning that the monitor could go out permanently without any further warning.

The probable cause is the monitor power supply. It is usually cheaper to just get a new monitor than to try and replace the power supply.

Dell monitor E172FPT HAS GOT BLACK LINES ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN HORIZONTLY??

Click the Menu button and use the '+' & '-' signs to select restore factory settings. Check if you get the same line in the BIOS screen, if so then you would need a replacement.

Brown horizontal lines sporadically appearing on monitor

I had the same problem. I fixed it completely today. The horizontal lines disappeared. IT IS DEFINETLY THE DEVICE DRIVER. I confirmed my monitor model tyope (dell M783s) and downloaded the specific driver for this monitor.

I had to do these exact steps or did not work.
1) with the problem screen, disabled the display adapter under the Hardware/Device Manager settings.
2) Restart the PC
3) Boot will come up with brown lines still but the screen will low resolution of 600x800.
4) Then I installed the correct device display monitor driver onto the pc. ( you may need to scan for new hardware, then choose the directory with the new hard drive.)

If you need step by step... just reply back.
