This is a strong indicator the magnetron is fried, also! this is the most expensive part to replace in the microwave oven, and in most cases cheaper to replace the whole unit.
un-plug it, it is not safe. i am thinking that the transformer is making the noise, probably because of the moisture.(cheap asian electronics) it could catch on fire.
It depends on if it is just a loose component that needs tightened up or if it has started failing. it will require some investigation and trial and error to resolve. I have had some success in resolving vibrations and some were real challenges. It is a matter of isolating the noise maker and seeing what can be done. Eric
I have just replaced the magnatrton for a Kenmore microwave model # 665.606.5900 as before replacing the part there is still the buzzing sound and non-heating
Your problem is due to the "magnetron" arcing to the wave guide within the microwave. Picture someone arc-welding stuff together inside the microwave casing, that's essentially what's happening. It is a fire hazard and you should stop using the microwave immediately. As far as I know, there isn't a recall on that particular model (though there was on another similar Kenmore/Whirlpool model) so if it's out of warranty, you're out of luck.
By high-pitched, you mean it is not that same frequency as when it's cooking?
Is the tone near or the same as the beep you hear when you press a key?
Please post a little more information so we can help better.
