Kenmore Over the Range Microwave making buzzing sound and not heating

My Kenmore Over the Range Microwave (model 665.60609000) is making a loud buzzing sound and the food is not heating. It started after a cup of coffee got overheated and sprayed/poured out of the unit. Any idea what the problem could be?

This is a strong indicator the magnetron is fried, also! this is the most expensive part to replace in the microwave oven, and in most cases cheaper to replace the whole unit.

SOURCE: Microwave not heating food and is making loud noise.

You have burned out the magnatron (heating element) which is common on GE microwaves. most service companies will charge about 200-250 to replace it

SOURCE: Microwave buzzing

It's likely a bad magnetron or maybe the high-voltage transformer. If it's within the warranty period of the magnetron (5 years or less), I would call Sears. In my professional opinion, no one should work on a microwave unless they are fully informed and aware of the deadly hazards and necessary precautions. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

SOURCE: Viking Micro noise

The noise is probably from the high-voltage transformer. When it is overloaded, the excess magnetic field it produces vibrates its wire coils. Odd that it only happens for a brief time. It is either defective itself (in which case it may go a long time) or it is getting overloaded by the magnatron/capacitor/diode on its output (in which case it will get worse shortly)
Hope Ya Fix it

SOURCE: Microwave making loud noise behind control pad and won't heat

Sounds like the magnatron (the bit that creates microwaves) could be goosed. Remove outer cover ( Isolate from the electric supply then remove screws at bottom on the sides).

Find big lump that says on magnatron with model nos etc on, any good electrical supply shop ( Maplins etc) should stock new one.

It is easy to change. It took me about half an hour having never done one before.

Buyer beware the price of the parts could be in excess of a new microwave.

Ge over range microwave runs but doesnt heat

If it does not heat and makes a loud buzzing sound, it usually means that the magnetron has failed. It the part that generatest the microwaves that heat the food. Replacement costs for magnetrons is almost as much as a new oven, so it rarely makes sense to fix. Sorry.

My microwave no longer heats anything and also makes a really loud buzzing sound when i attempt to use it.

The problem is most likely caused by a defective magnetron that "heats the food" is loading down the high voltage transformer causing it to make a loud buzzing sound. The cost to repair (depending on make and model) will probably approach the cost of a new microwave oven when you factor parts and labor.

Kenmore microwave Model No. 721.62463201 runs but does not heat and has a terrificately loud buzz. All lights displays are normal

Hello there:
There's no heat, but it buzzes loudly When the microwave won't heat, but you hear a loud buzz, you usually have a defective power diode, high-voltage capacitor, or magnetron. I recommend that you consult with a qualified appliance repair technician for help in determining the problem and deciding what to do about it.
And if you have your warranty for this you can use it to ok
Hope this helps best regards mike

Microwave makes loud buzzing sound when on and no heat

Have you tried putting a cup of water in it and cooking on a low power level? If it buzzes only when it is on the cook cycle, that would narrow it down. More detals might help us help you, including the model number.
