Mine keeps time but no chime. The repair shop says mine is wore out and needs the chimer section replaced. Do not try to repair yourself as it will cost you more in the long run.

SOURCE: I just received a Welby

These clock do need oiling every couple of years and should be cleaned at least every 10 years.

One of the winding holes is for the time, one is for the strike and the 3rd is for the chime. These do vary in location from clock to clock so I can't advise any further. It sounds like this clock has 2 differenct chimes depicted by the SIE & EIV7.

I think your best option is to take it to a clock shop and get it cleaned. They should then be able to give you more information on the chimes and its operation.

If your clock has a small hole between 4 and 5 then you can turn off the quarter hours chimes using the small part of the key. If your clock does not have that small hole you can not turn off the quarte hor chimes.

Seth Thomas wall clock doesn't chime on the quarter, half or three quarter hour but does chime on the hour

Hi,

Please change the time of your wall clock back 1 hour and check if the other 3 chimes return. There should be knobs on the side of the clock to help you do this. If not on the side, then please check on the back. Since you've already checked the settings and ruled them out as the cause of the issue (as well as the batteries), you might need to perform a factory reset on the clock if the steps I mentioned above fail.

Thank you.

Have a Seth Thomas mantle clock with wetminister chimes. Has been wound too tight with the key. Can I fix or adjust?

Sorry. If you wound the clock too strong, then probably the spring is broken inside. Go to a clockmaker to fix it. This is no job for somebody who is not extremely experienced in these kinds of clocks.

Have a Seth Thomas Banjo clock - estimated to be @ 60-70 years old - was working perfectly for many years - recently moved and movers took off pendelem weight so not to lose it - now clock will not run...

Is it spring wound or weighted with pine cones? I have a feeling the movers wound it up for you and over wound it. you can release the tension on the spring by carefully letting the key unwind while you hang on to the catch, I just got a clock from somebody, it was way over wound, took about 10 full turns out of it and got it running, it has been going for about a week without touching the spring. I haven't got the chimes back yet.,,, Now if it is a weighted mechanism, the chain may have jumped the track. Check that out. Other than that, I can't see why it shouldn't work. Hope this helps.
