I'm thinking it's those two rectangular buttons on the very top right of the machine (above the zig-zag stitch).

SOURCE: My machine Bernina 830 does not run.

Rose, most likely your machine is gummed up and needs oiling. A product called Tri-Flow is best. It can be purchased at most any hardware store. Or just use normal sewing machine oil. Open the top and put a fair amount of oil down behind the knobs and let it soak in. As it soaks just wiggle the knobs or turn them little by little back and forth until they free up. Don't force anything as something will break.
Good luck

SOURCE: Zig Zag Stitch not working

THis problem occurred as I was sewing on Neoprene. I was using Gutterman all-purpose thread and a size 80 needle. Tried switching to a size 70, then to size 90. Still unable to zig zag. After inserting a test sample of cotton, the zig zag worked perfectly, so I knew it was not a mecahnical problem. I switched needles again. This time to size 90 for stretch fabric. Voila! Problem solved.

SOURCE: Bernina 1630 needle will not move go side to side.

If you can pull the needle bar down manually and it springs back up, the basting clutch is stuck. By someone who knows how, it's a very easy fix. I would guide you here, but I don't know how to explain it. Plus, you have to be very careful not to damage the spring loaded clutch.

My needle is also out of it s center position. I have had it repaired before. But it has once again done this. Why does this happen? It is a Bernina 580.

Do you change your stitching often some stitching needle needs to move sideways backward and forwards this could be why make sure you are on the right stitch.

Bernina 930 change needle position

Look at the knob which creates the zig-zag stitch (1-4) at the top right of your 930. In the center of that is a silver knob that rotates right and left. That silver switch moves the needle position right and left.

Can you use twin needles on bernina 1080

I have a Bernina 930 Record that will take twin (even triple) needles, so I don't know why your 1080 wouldn't. Just be sure your machine does not have the straight stitch plate on it, that your presser foot can accommodate zig-zag stitch, and that you carefully adjust any zig-zag stitch width so the needles do not hit the presser foot or stitch plate. I'd suggest installing the double needle and then carefully hand rotate the handwheel to see if the needles will hit anything. If you can make a full rotation of the handwheel without anything hitting, then slowly try it with the motor engaged.

Needle won't move with move on but move free with motor off

You are describing a Bernina computer machine? With the machine on, the needle cannot be moved laterally because the energized step motor is holding the needle center position, With the machine in the off condition, the needle can be moved which is a normal condition. Your concern did not describe a problem but rather a condition that is totally normal. Please be more specific. SewTechnical Home ">

How do i move the needle bar to the back on a bernina 1008. It is not in the middle of the pressure plate hole and I am breaking a lot of needles. thank you

Is the needle in the center of the foot? If it is then you should adjust the plate. There should be a nut inside the bobbin case area under the plate that you can adjust the plate position with.

Needle off center

Hi, definately a tech can adjust this and it is pretty easy (10 minutes) though one needs a special screwdriver type tool called an eccentric tool (though its possible to just center the needlebar by hand). There is a small screw in the stitch width mechanism near the front left of the needle bar that must be slightly loose. It needs to be loosend more then center the needle and tightend down again. Sorry I can't describe where exactly it is without showing you pics.

Bernina 1630

I have a Bernina Virtuosa so not the same machine - but this may help. There is an icon on the front of the machine - it is a needlepoint pointing at a dot in an oval - there are arrow buttons on either side. These move the needle left or right of center and it shows on LED screen. I checked mine just now and if you turn machine off and on it resets to center automatically. Hope this helps - Happy Sewing!!
