Hi.
If the plastic guide is broken, I suggest you replace the complete window regulator,it broke because it must have
wear on the rest of the plastic guides as well.
I have seen very few of those parts sold online, but like
I said just replace the regulator with a new one and have the peace of mind that it`s not going to break again tomorrow.
Hope this helps

Testimonial: "thank you for your suggestion, but what part of set up is the regulator."

Hi, The regulator is the complete assembly that opens and closes the window, depending on what car you are working on you can find an aftermarket regulator for as low as $ 35.00

How do you get the plastic housing open on the inside of the windshield? I see how the screw on the mirror fits in the bracket but can you "open" the plastic around it?

if your talking bout the rear view mirror its a flat piece of metal glued to your windshield and the screw tightens the mirror bracket to the small piece of metal once you loosen or remove the screw you should be able to slide the mirror bracket off i believe it slides downward hope this helps

Replacement for passager mirror for 2005 pontiac grand prix

    Hello,

To replace the mirror of your car all you have to do is follow the process below,

    1. Remove the plastic shards of mirror lens from the mirror shell,
    2. If any of the shards are still stuck to the mirror, pull them off the motor and discard them,
    3. Sweep any small shards out of the shell with a vacuum cleaner,
    4. Place the new mirror lens into the mirror shell, the lens has a small metal bracket on the back of it that fits over the motor.
    5. The tight fit of the mirror in the shell forces the bracket to line up with the motor.
    6. Push the mirror bracket onto the motor by pushing on the center of the mirror lens with your hand. You will feel the bracket snap into place.
But if you want to remove the entire mirror, then you will have to follow the steps below for the DIY process:

    1. To replace the outside mirror, the door panel needs be taken off to get to the retaining nuts and the wiring.
    2. You will need a few common tools, Phillips screwdriver, flat head screwdriver, and a 10mm socket and ratchet. No special tools are required.
    3. Remove the Phillips screws located in the arm rest.
    4. Remove the screw in the door handle.
    5. Remove any screws that may be located around the circumference of the door panel.
    6. Use the common screwdriver and insert it in between the door panel and the door and pry out the trim fasteners around the circumference of the door panel.
    7. These trim fasteners are plastic plugs with serrated edges on the shank and pushed into holes on the door. Once these are removed, lift the bottom of the door panel straight up to unlatch the panel from the top horizontal ledge.
    8. If the vehicle happens to be a Ford, it uses downward facing hooks on the door panel that hook into the door. Simply lift straight up to remove the hooks.
    9. Bring the door panel just far enough to remove the door handle rods if necessary.
    10. Disconnect the power window electrical connectors. Remove the lower door panel's marker light connector.
    11. Disconnect the power outside-mirror electrical connector and then using the 10mm socket, remove the three retaining nuts on the backside of the outside mirror.
    12. Withdraw the mirror and studs from the door.
    13. Install the electrical connector for the new mirror through the opening in the door and line up the studs on the mirror with the holes in the door and push it through.
    14. Install the nuts on the backside. Connect the electrical connector.
    15. Hold the door panel close to the door and connect all the electrical connectors.
    16. Tip the bottom of the door panel outward slightly to attach the top curved surface to the horizontal channel.
    17. Lower the bottom of the door panel and line up the trim fasteners with the holes in the door. Once lined up, push them into the holes to hook the door panel.
    18. Replace all the screws in reverse order of removal.
    Take care.

I too am having a problem removing the small metal piece from the back of my 2002 pontiac grand prix rear view mirror. It fell off the windshield due to the heat, I'm supposing. It has the Onstar...

It should be the same as the ones from the late 90's. You have 3 pieces there. The metal piece comes out the bottom of the mirror and should have a piece of plastic attached to it. It is a friction fit with the actual mirror so it shouldn't require a lot of hammering or even hard hammering.
Once the mirror is off there should be a small slot in the remaining plastic and metal. Use a small screwdriver or something similar to push in on a clip that is inside and the plastic and metal should separate. Hope this helps.

Reglue the rear view mirror. How do I remove the metal disc to glue on the window? Every other one I've done their was a set screw. When you remove the screw the small metal seat slides out. This one is...

They changed it. You have to slide the mounting bracket out the bottom of the mirror case. It's a tight fit but the mirror assembly will slide off, toward the roof. Once you have it off you will see a small slot on the bottom of the mounting bracket. Slide a small screwdriver in the slot and push toward the mounting plate (windshield). The plate that goes on the windshield should pop off. Hope this helps.

Trying to re-mount the rear view mirror on a 97 Gmc Jimmy.

Try looking underneath the arm that runs from the mounting bracket to the mirror itself. You would be looking for a small allen or torx slotted screw. It will probably be metric if its an allen screw. I don't have anything that new so there is a possibility that it is covered with a piece of plastic molding which you should be able to pop off with a little patience and fiddling. Hope this helps.

How do i remove and replace the driver's side mirror?

If the metal pivot arm is not broken you can just replace the glass and plastic housing. To remove the glass you tilt the glass down towards the floor and use a wide plastic or wood bladed object to prise from behind, the glass should pop off from its clips. Remember to catch it if its not damaged. To remove the housing once the glass is out you need to look underneath the mirror unit, there you will find a small plastic bung, gently prise it out and then use a long small flat bladed screwdriver straight up inside the hole and lever towards the front of the car whilst lifting straight up on the plastic housing, this should then lift off. To replace just slot the new housing on and click into place then fit the glass back, remember to connect the wires first if it is a heated glass.
If the metal pivot arm is broken then you will find the remaining screws behind the plastic trim inside the vehicle.

    Replacing Passenger Window Motor

Hello, I have a 2004 Avl. I replaced the driver door window mechanism myself. You need to pry out the electric window controls with a dull blade as to not tear the vinyl. Disconnect the controls carefully. There are small release clips that hold the switch buttons onto the electric base. Then the arm rest, there is a long screw under the armrest. At the front towards the mirror there is a long screw under a round plastic snap cover. I believe it is a small metric bolt. Next grasp the bottom end of the door cover and pull with a sharp snap. Continue around the door panel gently pulling the snaps loose from their base. The door panel cover does not cantain screws only snaps. There is a clear plastic water barrior you need to be careful to peel without tearing and place on a clean flat surface with sticky side up. I had to replace the window track and motor all in one piece, can't just replace track. I purchaces the mechanism on-line parts store.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver power window will not lift.

These Jeeps are notorious for the power window regulators failing. I have also seen it on other Chrysler products (Durango). My 2001 Grand Cherokee has had both front windows fail for the same reason.
    Here's what happens:
The windows are raised and lowered by a small cable driven by an electric motor. The cable is held in place by a small, weak, plastic part molded into the mechanism. Over time the plastic weakens and eventually breaks, releasing the cable. This is usually when raising the window. Since there is now nothing holding the window up, it falls to the bottom of the door. Try as you might, the window is not coming up.
If this happens DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RAISE OR LOWER THE WINDOW. YOU WILL CAUSE MORE DAMAGE. It is possible to repair this for next to nothing if you stop trying to use the window. It will take a small amount of mechanical skills to pull it off but it can be done.
Remove the interior door panels. There are several plastic clips and a few screws. Be careful not to break the clips.
Remove the entire window regulator. This can be tricky.
Now disassemble the regulator and wind the cable up correctly on the pulley. If the cable or the pulley is destroyed from attempting to raise the window, you may have to buy a new regulator.
The cheap fix - Using heavy wire (hanger works great) form a small U-shaped loop about 1 inch long. Use this loop to hold the end of the cable in place on the window bracket (the part that broke). Slip the "U" around the cable and through the hole on the metal bracket. Bend the wire around the back side to hold it in place.
Before reinstalling everything, connect the electrical components and test for functionality.
I have fixed 3 of these using this method. 3 years later, still working good as new.
