1991 corolla door rod handle plastic clip broken

I have a 1991 Toyota corolla with a broken plastic clip on the inside of the rear driver door that needs replacement.The plastic clip attaches to a steel rod that opens the exterior rear door,but can't find the small part.I wanted to buy new because a used one will be weak.Need help finding this part please. You can get inside door handle either new or used from sellers on ebay. It should be just a few dollars plus shipping. Just search ebay for "Inside door handle 1991 Toyota Corolla."

there is a wire rod from the handle to the door lock that is held in the lock by a small plastic clip. These clips break and the rod falls out. Repair is to remove the door trim put the rod back in using a new clip.

There are one of 2 things wrong here. Either the outside handle is broken, and you'll need another one, or it is out of adjustment and can be repaired. It's a little work to find out either way, the inside door panel must be removed. This is lots of screws, you'll see as you start removing them. The black triangle plastic near the rear view must be taken off, pry the little round plug out and then remove the nut. Finally the panel lifts up, give the bottom a smack upward with your hand, it WILL come up.

Now is the tricky part, you need to see whats wrong. There is a rod connecting the door handle to the door release. If the rod looks like it moves up and down when you move the outside door handle up and down then it needs adjusting.
See the picture of the door handle...the white nylon clip on the right must be separated from where it attaches to the rod, then the rod is positioned higher so the handle can pull it up enough to open the door.

If the rod does NOT move when you move the handle, either the rod is completely loose, or the handle is broken. Remove 2 nuts from the inside and the handle comes out, and put back in a junk yard or ebay replacement. Good luck...Chris

Hello, try spraying WD40 in there, if that does not work you will need to remove the door trim and have a proper look from the inside, your return spring may be broken or popped out of place, if it is broken it is usually removed by 2/4 nuts/bolts with a few rods being held in place by clips, it is usually straight forward but can get a bit tricky with the clips and rods in the way, if the clips are plastic be extra careful not to break them and make sure you put the rods back in there correct place.

There are only 2 places that you have the problem on the inside door handle. one is at the handle,and the little plastic holder that holds the rod to the handle broke, or the plastic clip the the door lock mechanism broke. the first can be removed without taking the door apart. the inside door handle has a screw holding it in place. you can remove the handle and see if its broken. the second requires you to remove the door panel, to replace the clip that hold the rod to the lock. I door handle in the car is a dealer item only(sorry to tell you that), the clip for the lock, you can get at the auto parts store. hope this helps

In my 1996 toyota 4 runner my driver side door opens only from the inside. The locks still work and it still opens but not from the outside. How can I fix it?

you have to remove the inside door pannel first remove the arm rest two screws then remove the door latch assembly then remove the crank handle by removing c clip around the wndow knob unless electric, next pop the lower and side screws out of the corners then pop the snaps up from the door remove the lock tab at top pull pannel next gently remove the plastic that covers the door and straighten the rod out on the inside that goes to the outter door handle, if it's not hooked up then you will have to buy a plastic clip from toyota to replace it with.

Driver side door won't open from inside

It looks like your clip that holds the metal rod to the inner handle may either be broken, or dislodged. Remove the inner handle and check to see if the metal rod is connected to the plastic arm behind the handle.

It's probably broken, or unhooked. Just take your inner door panel off, and you'll soon figure out what's happening. Sometimes the rods get bent, or they come off the clip, or just need adjusting. And sometimes the handle itself is broken, but you can do it!

There are 2 metal rods that hook into the handle. They are retained by a plastic clip that is prone to wear out. You must remove the inner door panel and replace these clips reataching the rods. Parts available through Toyota.

Both door handles in the interior have broken off, it is amanual door lock. This is a 1999 Toyota Corolla

Get two new handles.

Unscrew the phillips screw located in the center of the handles. Slide the handle assembly backwards and out. Unclip the clip that holds on the metal lock-rod (needle nose pliers helps with that), and remove the lock rod. Fit the rod into the new handle's clip, and snap the clip into place on the new handle. Slide the front end into the door cavity, and then the back side. Reinsert the phillips screw. Very easy to do.

I replaced the outside door handle plate and after I was done the door locks with the remote and with the key on the paseenger door but not the driver's door. What did I forget to do?

you forgot to hook the manual lock rod into its proper plastic clip for the driver's door lock assembly. An easy fix but you'll have to go back inside the door again.
