Can a sliding window be converted into a single hung type of window without replacing the whole window?

I have some sliding windows by Jeld-Wen that were installed in the wrong direction (vertically instead of horizontally) so they won't stay open but fall right back down. The windows fit my openings perfectly fine but they "slide" up and down instead of left to right. Even though this was caused by a mistake with the store employee, they can't replace the windows because it's been too long since I had them (they're in a rental property I own and I wasn't aware from my tenant that there was a problem since some of the windows worked fine). So rather than purchase brand new windows which will be quite expensive, I'm trying to find out if there's any way to convert a sliding window into a single hung type of window. Do you know if there's any temporary fix where I can make the bottom sash slide up and stay open as if it were single hung? Could I install a balance on the track in the sliding window? Any ideas you have are appreciated. Thanks for reading.

No method that will be cheaper than new windows
remember that any fix that could cause harm to the tenant will cost more in court than new windows
the replacement cost is tax deductible as well and happy tenants generally pay on time

SOURCE: 2000 grand caravan sliding door won;t open

I would start by pulling the door panel off the inside. This will give you a look at the lock and handle mechanism to see what is amiss. Suspect a broken, fallen link that may now be lying in the bottom door channel and retrievable with magnetic pick-up tool. Get a good trim removal tool since a panel that large is easy to mar if you try pulling it with a screwdriver. Have a helper assist with the job and start by pulling the rear and middle seats if you can. To cheat on this, you may want to pull the panel on the opposite door to see how everything is supposed to look.

SOURCE: Back sliding window leaks arond the seal onto the back seat, how can I stop this without replacing the whole unit?

Gary, I had the same problem with my 1999 F150 xcab. I first ran water from a hose over the roof toward the back window. Start at one side and look for water trickles at the top of the window. Don't stop at one place but do the whole window. I found mine leaking at the upper corners and a small trickle at the slider window ends.
I removed my headliner to gain access to the nuts that hold in the window. There are two sets of nuts, one set for the windows molding outside and the other for the window itself. The factory seal was shrinking on the upper corners allowing the water to pour in. The window had to be removed. If you take off the nuts slide a utility knife between the body metal and the window frame, it will release. Be careful not to push too hard on the glass when removing (it may crack the frame and / or the glass itself) just use a steady push and make sure you cut the seal well with your knife.
After you have the window out, clean off the old seal with a plastic scraper so as not to damage the window frame surface, then clean with rubbing alcohol. Do the same with the tucks cab metal where the window seals to the cab. Be sure NOT to scratch the paint. If you so you will need to touch it up before you reinstall the window. Check your window for stress cracks in the frame. You can seal them with the butyl tape you will get at the parts store. If you cna't seal the stress cracks you will have to replace the window. You can also seal sround the outer edge of the window frame between the glass and the inner edge of the window frame that mounts against the truck body. The butyl tape should work for that as well, it is self adhesive.
Go to your local autoparts store and get new sealing material (butyl tape 1/4" or smaller). It comes in a roll. Place the seal around the edge of the window frame, making sure the tape is on the outside edge of the studs, and place the window back in the opening. (hold the window in by opening the slider) and replace the nuts on the inside. Snuggly tighten the nuts starting from the closest to the centers and working your way to the outside corner nuts. Once you have the window reinstalled you can water test your window right away, the sealer is waterproof immediately. If the window is sealed you may reinstall the headliner and any panels you had to remove.

My back window is pooping out of my convertible top. How do I fix without replacing the whole top?

Good Evening, there are several ways to go about it. First off your local upholstery shops can assist you in some way with that without changing the whole top with their assistance. Some glass places can prime the glass and you can get some fuzor to glue it back down. You have a couple options to explore now, hope this helps.

How to replace rear rag top window in a 97

I will assume that you have a glass window ,as opposed to a clear plastic one.
Look for a tiny zipper on the window welting ,on the inside,or a sewin ,in velcro tab .
Some of the window styles will change ,without notice from the manifacturer.
Check with an upholstery shop /a glass shop, they should know this ,and most will be happy to help.
I hope this help's
