Find yourself a electrical distribution diagram an see where the B+ voltage to the ignition comes from . An you need to be a little more specific ! Ignition system or ignition switch .
Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html
Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on electrical distribution ,then under subsystem click on power distribution . Click the search button then the blue link's one at a time .
Do you know what electronic throttle control is ?
It should be noted that the ETC system includes a wrench light on the instrument cluster that illuminates when a fault is detected. Faults are also accompanied by DTCS and the "Check Engine Soon" light.
Your best bet mite be to take it to a qualified repair shop.

SOURCE: How to remove disc brake rotor on a 1992 Ford Explorer 4-wheel drive

It should just pull off once you have taken the caliper off. It may be seized in place, if thats the case try spraying the back of it with some sort of penetrating oil, let it sit for a bit. THen put some heat on it if you have torches, or beat it with a hammer. Sounds kind of crude...but it works

I had same problem on my 2002 explorer. Its either the computer module, or the electric solenoid on the transfer case. In my case it was both. The computer module I had done twice in 14 months.

Check your hubs lift front end if wheel does not turn when locked in 4x4 then hubs are not engaging turn wheel by hand or a pipe wrench on drive shaft do not try power unless all wheels are lifted

2004 Ford Explorer AWD. what could be wrong? abs light is on, 4 wheel drive ligh is flashing, truck is stuck in 4 wheel drive

Sounds like you have an electronic shift diff to put it in 2 or 4 wheel drive. You could have a bad position sensor, or shift motor/linkage problem. Unfortunately, unless you have the diagnostic tool to see which is the problem, it is best to take it too a good tranny shop.

1995 Ford Explorer 4 wheel drive trouble, front wheel drive doesn't work

Something you can do is to tap the 4/4 motor under drivers side on the back of transfer case with key on engine off. Have someone work the buttons as you gently tap the motor. Don't hit so hard as to dent it. Usually works.

I just acquired my parents 2004 ford explorer from them and was wondering if the 4x4 auto comes on automatically or do you have to turn it on? they said there was some problems with the lights in the dash...

Why would or how would a vehicle know it was snowing,
and needed 4 wheel turned on?

Of coarse you have to select a button to turn it on or off

That said, it may not be working correctly, which is what your
parents told you!!

'02 explorer woes

Ok...several issues, and you won't believe this.......The 4 wheel drive is controlled by the Body computer, thats right, there is a computer that monitors and instructs Body functions like the door ajar sensors.Well,i just finished reading a technical article on a FORD that had no 4 wd,and the transfer case controller would not allow 4wd operation because the BODY computer sensed a door ajar,so 4wd operation was inhibited. They fixed the door ajar problem,a door sensor, the door ajar light went out on the dash, and the 4wd started working again...OK.....Check engine light is the vehicle computer that controls engine and transmission functions(PCM) has detected an error with a system. When this happens, the computer stores a diagnostic trouble code.Have the codes pulled with a scan tool or code reader.Repair the codes, and the Check Engine light will go out.The power windows,i honestly don't know, but HEY...2 out of 3 ain't bad!!
