Spencer, Check all fuses ,plugs and grounding at the tank.The sending unit module, inside the GM's gas tanks were notorious for going bad in this err, when you changed it did you use a quality part? Also the fuel pump sending unit plug/wire harnesses were known issues, so much that replacement pumps would often come with replacement plug to splice into existing harness. They are 2 ways to get this. An internet search using your year make and model car with the term fuel pump wiring or wiring diagram usually pulls up a collage of good diagrams. Or the autozone site has a help site at the bottom of its help page, There is a free part and a pay part, but free info will supply diagrams.

I would recommend checking the "re-wire job and make sure it is done correctly. Many GMs have had problems with the connectors at the fuel pumps. The fuel pump manufacturers have re-designed the connector to correct the problems they have been having. This is WHY the re-wire is required. The fuel pump kits usually come with the new connector to complete the job. However, some of the kits have wire colors that do not match the wire colors on the vehicle harness, Some of them also have "duplicate" colors, like two black wires. One will be a larger gauge than the other one. I had a couple where the white wire on the new connector had to be wired to the purple wire on the vehicle harness, etc. If your dad did not follow the directions EXACTLY then this could be the cause of your problem. (The pump MAY be running backwards)

if the gas gauge worked before i would just double check the connections to the fuel pump and make sure they are tight.

did you recently change the fuel pump? If so you needed to change the wire harness thats attached to the fuel pump, then if not, your floater need to be replaced inside your fuel tank.
How do I know? from experience.

Your best bet is to type it in to autozone.com and got to the repair section. it will tell you there.
