Gateway Xp tower lights turn on, but monitor does not respond; it reads "no signal"

"No signal found" is a generic display from a monitor that is not receiving a signal from the input cable. Your tower, however, may or may not be functioning. If you have another source to connect the monitor to (laptop or other PC) you can try that. Most monitors have a "menu" button. You could press that to see if a menu is displayed on the monitor, That will indicate that the monitor is working as a stand-alone. It will also indicate which input source is being used. If the input source is incorrect, then no signal is being received from the incorrect source. As far as the tower is concerned, the are a myriad of causes for no signal to the monitor. It could be unbootable due to a hardware failure at the mainboard level or the power supply. If you hear a single beep then the main board has passed it's diagnostic testing successfully (memory is ok, chips and CPU are ok). If you hear more than a single beep, the main board is having a problem. If a single beep occurs, them most likely it is the graphics controller. any other failure would be displayed on the monitor. If the graphics controller is on the main board, then you will need to install a new graphics card, bypassing the main board's controller. Was this a working system at one time?

Why does my GM5420 Tower start up, but doesn't Read/Register screen?

I am not familiar with Gateway machines but this should work for most computers. You will have do some reading up. Yes it's probably a VGA (15 pin D-sub) the connector is often blue but can be any colour)

If your mouse/k-b etc are wireless they may need fresh batteries.

It may be the graphics facilities on your computer are u/s. It's quite awkward to solve this problem because you can't see what you are doing. You might try drivers for the monitor you are using (do not pay for these and be careful to void websites which are sources of adware or other malware) though this is unlikely as basic graphics are supplied in the BIOS

Try "gateway" support, or the "gateway" or other computer forums.

Read this http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?70528-Upgrading-Video-Card-on-Gateway-GM5420

If there is a peripheral graphics card and your machine has on board graphics / video enter the BIOS (read up) and choose on - board video.

Try a graphics card (or on-board, or a different one known to work - see one of the many articles on how to set up a graphics card) Borrow one.

Essentially my course of action is try an alternative graphics facility to the one you have at the time of your post.

(Ihave just looked at the specification for this model at http://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-gm5420-core-2-duo-e6300-1-86-ghz-2-gb-320-gb/specs/
and it has on board Intel graphics default. Assuming the hasn't been an graphics 'upgrade' on your PC

Fix gateway graphics card

Not sure who would be trying to fix a graphics card since it is all circuit board electronics. Try to locate another and insert it.

Gateway GT5040 Graphics Card

This model Gateway desktop computer has a built-in video card.
Connect the monitor to the Gateway motherboard video port and the boot up and go into the BIOS and select disable the built-in video.
Shut down then connect the monitor to the 8800GTX video card and boot up the Gateway computer. The video should then appear in the monitor.

My Gateway FX 7026 goes "Black Screen" upon start-up and nothing happens.

The video is out.If you have a video card, replace it.For now you can run graphics off the mother board. To do that.Turn the computer off and unplug the power.Look on the back of the machine find where the monitor is connected. There are two places to connect a monitor. The first is kinda high on the machine and is blue,if you are already plugged in to the blue one the mother board is bad.Take it to a shop for repair,or buy a new computer. If the monitor is plugged into the white slot you have a bad graphics card and need to replace it.

When I turn on my gateway computer my monitor will turn on but will says "no signal RGB". is it my motherboard thats going bad?

If the monitor comes on with the Gateway logo and follows with no signal, the monitor is probably okay. If the computer seems to run with no display then I would suspect the video graphics card, but there are a lot of variables that I do not know. I suggest a computer repair store to check your system with an estimate.

My monito is not getting signal

if your monitor says no signal and goes to sleep when your pc is on then the first thing to check is if it's plugged into the correct socket. I've had people tell me yes to this question and when I see them all I do is plug the monitor into the right socket. They had an additional graphics card as well as the on board graphics output. If this is not the issue then the graphics output is probably shot, add new graphics card or replace motherboard.

Computer Does not work correctly with Radeon 9250 Graphics Card

Hmm? Everything except replacing the motherboard, sometimes it does not get any better, but...go into your BIOS and turn off the Gateway splash screen. It will be an option in maybe the first or second menu choice. Make sure your on board video device is disabled and save your options when exiting. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Monitors wont work

It appears that you have a faulty graphics card.
If the graphics card is integrated with the motherboard then it cannot be repaired. Just purchase a new AGP graphics card, insert it into the AGP slot and connect your monitor to this card.
You may need to go to the BIOS setup to disable the on-board graphics card.
If you don't have an integrated graphics card, then buy a replacement graphics card.
You will need to install the new graphics drivers after installing the graphics card.
