Computer Does not work correctly with Radeon 9250 Graphics Card

I have an SEL 400 Gateway Desktop computer with a MSI MS 5185 Ver. 1 Motherboard installed. This board has the Aladdin V chipset (UGH!!!) with ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X integrated graphics. Several of the PC games I like to play will not work with the Rage Pro Graphics. Other than this, the computer runs absolutely fine. So, I installed an ATI Radeon 9250 PCI Graphics card. This card works perfectly in every other computer I have ever installed it in except this one, and one other computer I had which contained the Aladdin V chipset. What happens is this-When the Radeon is installed in the Gateway, it takes at least seven tries to get the computer to boot up before it finally does so. The first few tries it goes to the Gateway splash screen, then either puts the monitor into standby mode, or it just goes to a blank black screen. Usually, after six or seven tries, it FINALLY boots up, then everthing runs perfectly. I'm running WIndows XP Professional SP 2, and the motherboard has a K6-2 500 MHZ AMD Processor (Upgrade from the old AMD K6-2 400 MHZ Processor) with 384MB Main Memory (Up from 64MB), and two small hard drives (4 and 13 Gig. Up from single 3.6G) What would be causing this, and how do I fix it? I have already tried upgrading to newer drivers, newer BIOS, newer much more powerful power supply

Hmm? Everything except replacing the motherboard, sometimes it does not get any better, but...go into your BIOS and turn off the Gateway splash screen. It will be an option in maybe the first or second menu choice. Make sure your on board video device is disabled and save your options when exiting. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Gateway computer is stuck in power saving mode.

The Gateway 818GM is a few years old but if - hopefully - the motherboard auto-detects a video card, try removing the MSI MS-8936 video card & swapping over the monitor lead to the other VGA connector fed from the motherboard.

Failing that, if you think it's a faulty video card, they're cheaply available on eBay eg for US$6.70 here:

Can MSI MS-6380E support radeon x1800?

http://www.legendmicro.com/store/2940_MSI-MS-6380E-010-KT3-Ultra-Socket-A-Socket-462-for-AMD-Athlon-XPDuron-Processor.lmsp

1) Motherboard uses a Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

When they switched from the Athlon single-core processors, to the Athlon 64-bit dual-core processors, they went to a completely different processor socket.

AM2,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2

So using the MSI MS-6380E motherboard with a dual core AMD processor = NO.

I don't seem to find an AMD Athlon 64 X2 1.8GigaHertz processor, except for a mobile version. One used for a laptop in otherwords,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113047

Uses a Socket S1 mobile processor socket,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_S1

List of AMD Athlon 64 microprocessors,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_amd_athlon_64_microprocessors

Pretend like I'm from Missouri, and Show Me.

Find the processor by it's AMD part number, and post the URL of the website in a Comment.

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-Venice-Single-Core-Processor/dp/B003RXLMCC

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
SINGLE-core processor, not X2.
(Socket 939 processor socket, too)

Show me the Processor, and then we can go on.

Will; a radeon hd 5450 work in a gateway 300x desktop

Ummmm, no.

The old Gateway 300X desktop computer has only white PCI slots, to install a graphics card in.

http://pcworld.about.net/news/Jan082003id108534.htm

More info on PCI technology,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_local_bus

The ATI Radeon HD5450 (No matter who remakes it. VisionTek, Sapphire, etc) uses a PCI-Express x16 slot, on the motherboard,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6671719&CatId=3670

More information on the PCI-Express technology,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-Express

From the link above's info on the Gateway 300X, it uses an Intel Pentium 4 at 1.8GHz, and uses old SIMM ram memory. (Single Inline Memory Module)

Not EVEN a gamer computer for today's games, no matter how you upgrade the graphics card.
(Not trying to be harsh, just telling it like it is)

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

(If you want to upgrade the graphics, use a PCI graphics card, IF there is any open, available PCI slot on the motherboard.

A) BEFORE you install the graphics card, stick that CD that came with the graphics card, into the optical drive. (CD/DVD drive) F-I-R-S-T.
Load the software on the disk.

B) Now turn the computer off normally, then unplug it from power.
Observe Anti-Static Precautions.

Anti-Static Precautions:

Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit) the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

1) Work on a table. DO NOT work on a bed, couch, or directly on a carpet floor. These are HIGH areas of Static.

2) Computer unplugged from power, computer case open.
TOUCH the metal frame (Unpainted surface) of the open computer case.
This action will relieve your body of Static.

Should you leave your computer in the middle of working on it, be SURE to Touch the metal frame again upon your return.

C) Install the graphics card into the computer. Close the computer case, plug into power.
WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.
{Don't forget. You have to plug the monitor cable into the graphics card now, not into the computer's I/O area }

Ms 6787 no signal input

since you said you do not know anything anything about the jumpers and stuff, probably i suggest you take it to a nearest computer specialist to do it right for you. one thing you have to check up when installing a new motherboard is you power supply, does it have more or less power output? is the local disc or hard drive connected correctly? if you have no idea on all of this then there is a need to have a specialist to do it right for you becauase if not, there would be nothing for you computer to display.

looking forward to hear from you.

thanks,

Radeon graphics card and 3rd RAM slot conflict

I thought this board looked familiar to me. I recall some rules for the memory cards. Do all your memory cards meet this requirement:

Supports up to 3GB PC1600/2100/2700/3200* DDR SDRAMs

If you are using DDR 400 you can only use 1 slot.

What kind of memory are you using?
