Sounds like maybe you got a gasket on backwards or crooked that is blocking the passage that the fuel pulls through... otherwise, perhaps the hose connection to the tank is not put back together right or may have a crack in it.
most trimmers are 50:1. or 40:1. i would use synthetic 2 cycle oil and use the 50:1 ratio. i know guys with trimmers that require 50:1, and they use synthetic at 80:1 with no problems for years. they say the engine runs cleaner. i am a part-time lawn care operator.
