Onkyo DV-SP301 DVD player stuck in standy mode

After reading RichardAE's solution, I found the resistance across my R2 resistor to be 55,000 ohms. The Grn-Org-Blu-Gld R2 stripes indicate it should be 56,000 ohms,+/-5% (not 5600 ohms per RichardAE's post), so my R2 resistor does not seem to be the problem.
RichardAE indicated he replaced his with a 10,000 ohm resistor. Can anyone verify that this is a suitable solution?

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

SOURCE: Onkyo DV-SP301 DVD player stuck in standy mode

Had an Onkyo DV-SP301 that would only intermittently come out of standby. Found faulty resistor R2 on the power supply board (board ORTP-865), it was nominally 5600 ohms, measured much higher. This after checking most p/s caps! R2 runs warm when unit is in standby, so you may want to replace with a higher power rated resistor. I used same rating but 10 k ohm instead, worked fine then.

A 24 volt series circuit contains (3) resistors r1=12ohms,r2=24ohms, and r3=12ohms. what is the voltage measured across r2?

Equivalent resitance of the 3 resistors in series Req=12+24+12=48 Ohms.
Intensity in the circuit: I=V/Req=24Volts/48 Ohms=0.5 A
Voltage drop across the 24 Ohms resistor V2=24 Ohms*0.5 A=12 Volts

Hi, so i have the desay dvd player, and im having trouble changing the battery for the remote. the back of the remote says its 04A05 CAT.NO. 16-3901. dunno if thats helpful or not, anyway, i'd really...

If you turn the remote over there is a tab at the top push that towards the bottom of the remote and pull up. Once you have the battery cover off replace batteries with two AAA batteries. Click below for a copy of the manual. The battery replacement is on page 9 of 40 in the adobe document.

My Onkyo TX-SR500 receiver stays in standy/on mode.

It may be your amplifier protection circuitry is being activated and shutting down automatically. This is usually caused by a faulty output transistor in one or more of the channels. I recently repaired my Onkyo TX-SR500 which had this problem.
Using a multimeter on ohms check between C and E on each of the ten output transistors. I found Q6051 and Q6061 to be short cct on all pins. Once you have located the faulty channels check the adjacent components for open or short cct.

I replaced the following components,
Q6051 (2SD1047)
Q6061 (2SB817)
R6091 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6081 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6101 2x 0.22ohm 2W
Q6031 (2SD2061)

The amplifier now works perfectly, cost of the parts is about $15-$20.
If you don't feel confident doing this yourself just find a friend or tech who can do it for you.

Re: Onkyo DV-CP500 DVD player stuck in standby mode (by 7 users)

Hi Yes, sorry just saw this comment. Swap out C7, C17 and C18 in the power supply. Also I would check if you are getting 9Volts to the motor control IC's pin 7 coming off of C005 on the Mechanism Board which is under the unit. The hole for the C005 cap was drilled into a very narrow section of the circuit board and has marginal connection at best.. mine stopped working because of this 6 months after I fixed the power supply.
