SOURCE: fan starts runnung fast and everything is frozen

Overheating. Try using canned air and blowing out vents. If you are comfortable with it, take the laptop apart and clean it out. If not, contact a local computer shop that can do it for you. If cleaning doesn't do it, the CPU heatsink will need reseated or the CPU will need replaced.

SOURCE: Sony VAIO GRT170 laptop fans wont run.

Overheating usually happens when the fan is not coming , therefore when the computer overheats.Or the fan is not cooling enough and computer is overheating.

Monitor computer temperature using a software, check if Fan is coming up when temperature gets critical.

If fan comes up but does not cool enough, then replace the fan, it is not efficient anymore because of a bad bearing or dust. ~Also ensure that fan is well mounted, if fan has poor contact with CPU surface , cooling will be poor.

If fan does not come up, and critical temp is not detected, then the sensor on motherboard is bad, this is very uncommon. When this happens the problem is usually related to system or power settiings , rather than overheating.

If fan does not come up and temp is critical, then fan is faulty, replace it.

There are also more than one fan on many laptops, check that one of the fans (CPU fan, video fan) is not completely ded, and therefore cause for the problem.

By using the software below you can also find out if the problem is really overheating. If temperature results within normal range, then usually it is not overheating. In that case test systtem and check power saving settings.

Here is the software to control your fan and temp. sensor state:

Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Download SpeedFan 4.38

SOURCE: My IBM T22 LAPTOP cooling fan does not work . When

If the fan is not running, your computer will definately have a problem very soon. Sometimes, the fan is just clogged up by dust and debris. Head down to a local computer store or one of the box stores and purchase some compressed air dusters.
Dust out the fan and vents as best you can. If the fan still does not spin, your computer will easily overheat and, in all probablilty, shut down on you at random.
If left for too long, this could cause multiple other problems for your computer. I would recommend you look at getting the fan replaced as soon as possible if you cannot get it to work by dusting it out.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: Asus M2V motherboard has started locking up no apparent reason

Why don't you try these free programs first. Download the free program called CCleaner; http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Run the cleaner than run the registry cleaner. See if you're system stops locking up.
Still no help? Download Defraggler and run it. Lastly on the same site download Speccy and check if there is a heat problem within the system.
If you feel its the MB you can replace it preform a simple google search; http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=ASUS+M2V&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=L-XtS7CMDYH-8Ablxtj9Cg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CDAQrQQwAg
Check for warrantys. You should find one that comes with a 1 year warranty.

Asus n61j overheat. How to improve it?

One of the reasons why Laptops overheat is dust. If It's been a while since you used canned air, I would spray in every vent.

Another thing, ventilation. Make sure you are using the computer on a flat surface. Beds, blankets and carpets are big no nos.

This may seem cumbersome, but disconnect your ac charger OR run it on the charger without battery once in a while. Internal charging circuits generate a considerable amount of heat.

Cooling pads also work pretty good as well. Make sure the airflow is going INTO the laptop and not out. Cheap pads (ones that are like under $10 us dollars) generally do not work well..

Beware that most laptops tend to run hot as they do not have much space for airflow. There's not much else to do other than what I suggested above,

No starting laptop Asus f3t

Maybe the motherboard gone bad. You can test the hard drive and the memory first. First, take out the hard drive and restart your laptop. If the problem persist, take out 1 memory, then restart your laptop. If the problem persist, then take out the second memory and install the first memory. If the problem persist, then your motherboard is dying. Please do not forget to detach the ac adapter and the main battery before you touch the hard drive and or the memory; and read the laptop's service manual.

I need the SERVICE, not user manual for an ASUS U52F-BBL5 . . the fan runs all the time now, and the temps run around 42C to 50C this model of ASUS doesn't have an access panel that exposes the fan,...

Hi Icapelis...
Sorry...I did not come up with any service manual for your ASUS U52F-BBL5 anywhere on the net in my searches.
But I did came up with a youtube video of how to replace the lcd screen on an Asus U52f there is other videos showing how to disassemble other parts of the laptop.
Most laptops are disassembled about the same, just watch some of the videos and I am sure you will do fine. Just take your time and make sure you remember how to reassemble the laptop, write it down if necessary.
Always remove your battery before starting any repairs.
Sometimes the heating problem in laptop is dust buildup inside of the computer.
You might try to use some compressed air to blow out the dust of the laptop, You can use the kind in a can, but I perfer to use 90psi compressor air .
Just blow the air stream in the exaust first, then the intake, you will keep reversing the air flow untill all the dust is out of the computer.
Do not over spin the fan.
This may eliminate your heating problem.

My ASUS laptop F8OL always shutdown when temperature rises on top of my keyboard on the left handside but my ASUS NB Probe did not give a warning and itsays Normal, can you help me out

Your laptop shuts itself down to due to overheating. It does this to prevent damage to your components. This may have been caused by one of a combination of the following reasons:

1. Faulty fan.
2. Dust preventing the fan to supply enough air into the board.

Solution: Clean or replace the Fan.

Cleaning the fan isn't a job for the rookies so I suggest you take your laptop to the computer repair shops and have them service it. Unless you know what you're doing. This procedure can damage your laptop entirely.

Hope this helps.

The help center page on my asus eeepc keeps opening spontaneously. If I try to close it it simply reopens. I am running on Linux Xandros and using Mozilla browser. At times the page then replicates...

Sounds to me like there might be a stuck key or keys that is causing that page to keep coming up. Since you have it restored back to factory defaults, take the keyboard out of the laptop.

Turn it off first before taking the keyboard out of the system. Then go ahead and turn it on and let it boot up into windows. If the help page doesn't keep coming up then that means you do have some stuck keys and you'll need to replace the keyboard.

If it still keeps coming up, then it might be spyware or a virus causing it to happen. At that point I would wipe out the hard drive by formatting it and then reinstall windows or linux and then see what happens from there, if it works then you know there was spyware on the hard drive causing the problem.

One of those two scenarios should solve the problem.
