Scale of blood pressures at ages 70 to 80?
This can vary quite a bit as your plumbing is not what it used to be. It is now recognized that increasing BP in older people is in fact not normal or desirable, and should be treated. However authorities say that aggressive treatment and large decreases in BP may be just as risky. BP in older people is always worth checking.
Still, since we are talking about a range of persons, we have to look up averages. If the reading is about 140/90 or above you should ask the doctor about it, but the doc may consider this is OK,
If it is 130-140 over 80-90 you are doing very well. If much less, ask the doctor.
Now a longer record at different times will tell the doctor a great deal more, so you might want to get a home BP meter, have the doc check it, and keep a record of random readings. I have one, I'm an old f**t, I take 2 tablets, and the meter has been very informative.
