Might have shaken up dirt in the gas tank. Flush add clean gas with STABIL. Remove bowl from carb check for debris. Take a bread wrapper clean back plastic, use wire to clean out port up thru carb. Clean carb. Reassemble. Use clean air filter.
Back to basics, is the fuel in the tank good?( fill with fresh fuel ) does it have a spark at the plug?(remove the plug, earth against the cylinder, is there a spark,if not, replace the spark plug and try again ) does the plug wet with fue lafter pulling?( clean/service carb ) is the spark occuring in the correct place ( flywheel key sheard ) has the engine got good compression?
Briggs & Stratton Part Number 799876 replaces Champion plug RJ2YLE. For use in Quantum Series 625, 675, and 725 engines built after Date Code 110701xx. The gap for this spark plug should be set to .020". This spark plug should not be used with Quantum Series 625, 675, and 725 engines built before Date Code 110701xx, or any other L-head engine family.
You are correct, you have a flywheel with magnets in, an electronic ignition unit which when the magnets pass the ignition unit core at speed energises and creates a spark via the plug, the earth wire simply takes the unit to ground and shuts off the spark, the unit you changed was it definetly an electronic unit or just a coil? if electronic and you are cranking the engine fast enough and have the plug well earted against the cylinder with the earth wire not connected it should spark.
1. Verify that the gas tank is full and closed
2. Verify that the oil is filled to the "full line"
3. Remove and inspect air filter clean/replace if necessary
4. Remove and inspect spark plug clean/replace as neccesary
5. Apply warm air to engine block via hair dryer at the spark plug for 5 minutes and attempt to restart
6. If that doesn't work allow the mower to "rest" for 30 minutes and repeat step 5.
"Model-Type-Code" numbers on a Quantum Series are usually located on the sheet metal right above the muffler. If not there, remove the plastic cover from the blower housing and check on the blower housing near the spark plug wire.
Hope this helps
