According to the advertising, it is supposed to pump and generate loads of steam continuously.
Steam ironing Recommendations: To prime the steam circuit, either before using the iron for the first time, or if you have not used the steam function for a few minutes, press the steam control button several times in a row, holding the iron away from your clothes. This will enable any cold water to be removed from the steam circuit. • To obtain steam, press the steam output button under the iron handle. The steam will stop when you release the button. • After approximately one minute, and regularly while it is being used, your steam generator's electric pump injects water into the boiler. It makes a noise but this is quite normal.
I would try a liquid descaler like CLR and try to get liquid up into the head of the iron as well. My thought is that something is stuck with scale buildup.
The Tefal website has Customer Support and also says they are repairable.
Despite my searching, I find that you are the only person to have this issue. I am guessing that you has a split in the steam tank, a bad connection to the steam tube, or a split tube. The only way would be to strip it down or take it in for repair. You could try contacting Tefal and see if you can get a warranty repair on it. Even if it is out of date, you can still ask.
Steam irons can become clogged with mineral deposits. Use distilled water in the iron to minimize these deposits.
To clean the iron , use 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water. pour in iron and place iron on steam. The iron may require a few cleanings.
Great answer from Jacquief above. To which I add try giving the base of the iron and its button, a very light tapping with a tack hammer (much smaller and lighter than a standard hammer) wrapped in a tea-towel. This can often break up the lime scale seal which has formed somewhere inside and is not responding to Jacquief's method. In future never use scale laden tap water in your iron, use $2 litre bottles of distilled water from any supermarket.
