Light bulbs require power and ground in order to work. The ground circuit for the left rear combination lamp is shared between the turn lamp, stop lamp and tail lamp. Because the tail light still works in that specific combination lamp, we know that the shared/common ground for that assembly is OK. The power circuit for both stop lamps (left and right) have the same origin; voltage flows from the STOP LP FUSE (15A) through the DBC RELAY (when the stop lamp switch is pressed) and then to each stop lamp via their respective circuit branches. Because the right stop lamp works, we know that the shared/common fuse, relay and switch are all OK. I'd suspect an open in the left stop lamp power supply branch and would recommending checking for voltage on the green & black wire at the left rear combination lamp assembly to confirm. Regarding the left lamp on the hatch, the wiring diagram indicates these are not stop lamps rather tail lamps only. I'd recommend installing a tail lamp bulb instead of a brake light bulb into that assembly as a first step. There is a Hatch on the plastic part of the interior behind the light. You can reach in through the hatch and twist the bulb connector out of it's socket to replace the bulb.
open rear hatch and remove screws holding the entire light fixture in place. pull out gently as not to damage wires. disengage locking mechanism usually plastic and remove bulb and wire. carefully remove bulb without breaking it and replace with approved bulb
As I have just seen this post I may be late in answering.
1. Open the hatch and look for the two screws on top of the tailight.
2. Take these out with a No.3 Phillips head screwdriver.
3. Pull on the tailight gently outward as the plastic inserts are what holds the lens in the body.
4. Locate the lamp for replacement and twist the lamp socket out of the lens.
5. Replace the bulb with the new one making sure to leave it clean of any oils from your hands. Twist the socket back into the lens.
6. Reasemble the lens back into the body and replace screws.
you have to remove the taillamp assembly. there should be 2 screws(possibly torx heads)on the side when you open the hatch, remove those screws and pull the taillight out-the just unscrew the bulb
Believe it or not, for the Taurus wagon, Ford wants you to take it in to the shop. The Taurus wagon tail light assembly is really a stupid design. I will do my best to describe it here. You must remove
the two phillip screws on the tailight assembly, seen when you have the
hatch door up. The trick is the assembly is still held with a hinge
type, snap in deal that holds the front part of the assembly tight to
the body side. You might be able to see or access it from inside the
spare tire cover or the access door on the passenger side. Being oh so
careful to release the clip so you can pull the assembly free to change
the bulb. Hope this is some help.
Hello, the front light bulbs are easily changed by twisting the plastic holder in the back of the lamp that holds the bulb counter-clockwise. You turn it about a 1/4 turn and then it pulls out and you can switch bulbs. Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers because oil from your fingers will cause the bulb to burn out quickly.
