Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd computer then plug them back in restart your this should activate the found new hardware wizard. If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem "you only need to do the following" if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. Upper Filters Lower Filters Upper Filters.bak Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor Reboot your computer Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. if this fails to fix the problem
It could be a problem with the lens you could use a liquid type lens cleaner place 2-3 drops on top of a cd/dvd then run it
It sounds like your game is installed "compact' which means that the main files for the game are loaded on your computer's hard drive but other files, such as graphics that are only used occasionally, but still needed for game play, remain on the CD. Either insert the game CD in the drive or reinstall the game and look for a prompt asking you to choose between full or compact install, and choose full.
If it happens for only one particular disk: Bring that disk to a game store like Gamestop or Rock30 Games and have them professionally clean the disk for a couple bucks.
If it happens for all disks: Clean the cd/dvd with a laser lens cleaning kit. If that doesn't fix it then the cd/dvd drive will need to be replaced.
If you are trying to install Norton from a CD/DVD, insert the CD/DVD into your CD/DVD drive.
If the autoplay option shows up automatically, click on "run ****.exe from the CD/DVD" and it will start installing Norton. Now, during the installation, you must follow the on-screen instructions.
If the autoplay doesn't show up, open your computer, right click over the CD/DVD drive and click on "Open Autoplay". Select "run ****.exe from the CD/DVD" and Installation will now start.
If you want to install Norton from a downloaded copy, double-click over the downloaded package (****.exe) and follow the on-screen instructions.
goto run and type "compmgmt.msc"(without quotes) and select disc management if the dvd drive is showing below the hard disks means your dvd drive is working fine only thing you have to do is to right click on the CD-Rom 0 and change drive letter and paths to it .if the CD ROM option is not seen in disk management then you have to go to the device manager option under computer management and expand cd/dvd -rom drives and you will find your dvd drive model if not that means that your dvd drive has got hardware problem
Windows Key-E will bring up windows explorer which should show your list of available drives.
If this doesn't show your CD drive then try removing CD from drive. Does the disc tray open?
If so then reboot system without disc and try the above method to find cd-drive.
If this doesn't work you may need to involve more hands on trouble-shooting.
Thanks
Not by just inserting the CD in your computer drive. It can be done by using an emulator but I do not recommend you go that route. It may be illegal and emulators are written by enthusiasts so you never know if they will actually work or if they are safe. It is your choice of course. I would not try it.
Does your disk drive work perfectly otherwise? Are you sure that your disk drive is capable of playing the disk involved? Older computers might have CD drives, incapable of reading DVD disks, which most of the games today use. Of course, besides, older computers might not be able to run it in the first place, so it might be a superfluous statement.
Look at the CD to see if there's any scratches or glitches. They might prevent the disk from reading properly. If so, return it to the shop for a new one.
