Do you mean the USB-ports on your laptop? If so, than yes, you will need one free USB-port to connect the Chill Mat to.

Why isMy Acer aspire gettting really hot, would replacing the battery help?

Sometimes, the computer gets really hot because the "ventilation" (cooling) system (fan, etc.) is not working properly. Normally, if it gets too hot, i.e. to an unacceptable level, the system will shut down. Or, it will catch on fire.
Yes, it's known that some battery will get too hot ... and potentially damage the system. So, if you already know that the cooling system is working properly, then try replacing the battery.

Projector is powering off

Typically when electronic devices just shut themselves off it's due to some type of overload, the most common are thermal and current. If you can power it back on again after the device has set for a while it's generally thermal overload (device is getting too hot) because if it was current overload you would have to change some type of fuse or reset some type of breaker. Has the fan stopped operating? Next time you power it up, keep a close eye on it. If it doesn't run at all or if it stops during operation theres probably something mechanically wrong with the fan. If it runs the entire time it may not be running fast enough the venting ports could be clogged with debris. If youre technical enough you could take it apart and blow out all the venting ports including the fan (if you do this BE SURE TO BLOCK THE FAN WHILE BLOWING AIR THROUGH IT, IF YOU DON'T YOU RUN THE CHANCE OF RUINING THE BEARING IN THE FAN AND THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO REPLACE THE FAN!!!) also a lot of these small venting fans have a small oil port for them, it's usually a sticker that says oil on the center of the fan. Use a light weight oil, just a small drop or two and it's generally a good idea to try and get it running before sealing it up just so you don't fling oil all over the inside of the case and on boards but be careful not to touch any of the circuitry and don't leave it powered on too long, just enough for the fan to get to operating speed and make sure it's not leaking oil, if you run it for too long with the fan off you could overheat the circuitry and damage something and make a bigger problem. hope this helps :)

Fan noise solving method

The fan is reaching end of life, or there is a lot of dirt build up in the cooling fan and the heatsink ports. The ideal way is to dismantle the laptop down to the motherboard, remove fan and heatsink use a can of compressed air blow all dirt from open ports and the cooling fan, and in most cases it will run better

Right fan runs much higher than my left fan left fan has little exaust computer freezes while on keyboard lit but nothing works have to hold down the shutdown on teh computer my computer is on a desk and...

Because of the very high CPU Usage, the right side fan will run more then the left Fan. Left side fan is for the Power supply. For this exhaust problem, use the laptop cooling pad while using the laptop which will solve your problem.

Belkin cooling fan has stopped working

The problem may be a bent fan blade. It can be hard to see, so look carefully. On my Belkin, something got through the fan grill and bent one blade just enough to stop the fan. By removing the bad blade it continued to run fine.

My air conditioning fan is very intermitant, the compressor seems to ru n for a short time and then stop, however the fan will not run. Sometimes it comes on and most of the time it doesn't.

Check to see if the contactor that operates the fan and compressor is "pulling in" on a call for cooling. If the compressor runs and the fan doesn't it will fault on high pressure. They both have to run together to work. I think you have a bad fan motor or a bad fan capacitor though. The capacitor could be weak or shorted. Have that checked before you buy a fan. $5 compared to $75. My guess is the fan bearings are worn or dry. Try lubricating the fan. It should have oil ports on the side somewhere. Ten drops of oil in each port should do it if the bearings aren't shot. Good Luck.

Fan problems

There will be a port on the side or bottom of the machine for air to get to the fan. You will be able to see or hear the fan run thorough this port. Start the machine and listen for the fan, you should be able to hear the fan clearly, when running. If the fan is working properly it will turn on and off in regular intervals to cool the machine.

Unit comes on, then throws breaker

Fan should start at the same time as the compressor. If the fan is not running the pressure could build in the system and cause the breaker to trip. Your fan motor may need replacement, or lubricated if it is not a permanently lubricated motor bearing type. Oil ports will be located on the fan motor for front and rear bearings . There may be a dirt plug in the oil ports.
