My light and fan combo has worked fine for the last three years or so. Yesterday when I went to turn on the lights, there was pop sound and my remote receiver was shorted out. What is going on?

I believe you answered your own question.  Shut the breaker off to the fan unit, and get a visual of the control module pcb.  If it looks repairable, have at 'er.  If it looks real bad, replacement may be your best option. http://www.eceilingfans.com/pc_boards_-_ceiling_fans.html If the price scares you, have another look at the one in your hand!

The light on the remote is a battery light. First mistake was buying a store brand fan which are mostly low-end parts. Try adding a different remote w/receiver.

I have had a Hunter 52" fan with a Hunter Breeze remote that has worked perfectly for almost 4 years. Starting last night when I press the light "on" button, they flash on and off at the rate of about

Sounds like a loose wire nut to me. When you turn the light on the connection warms up and the wires will expand. When you turn it off they cool down and contract. Combine that with slight vibration from the fan over 4 years it could cause a loose connection. Just pull the trim ring down and tighten all the wire nuts. The light is usually the blue wire. Dont forget to kill the power first. If that doesnt work its probably a bad remote sensor.Inexpensive and easy to replace.
