Check your cables. Try turning the printer off and leave it turned off for 5-10 minutes, disconnect all the cables, restart the PC. Plug the cables back and turn the printer on. What does the user manual say? Download Free Manuals

Dear sir;I believe you can try " cold reset", that's means going to clear all data from the printer memory and sets all the defaults back to the factory settings.performing a "cold reset" resets the jetDireect configuraion. to avoid making changes to yourconfiguration, remove the jetDirect card before performing a cold reset. if possible, print a configuration page prior to performing a cold reset. this will document current settings for later reference.
to perform a cold reset;
1, turn off the printer.
2, while pressing "go", turn the printer on. COLD RESET appears briefly on the display, then INITIALIZING appears.after a few seconds, RESTORING FACTORY SETTING appears on the display, followed by OFFLINE.the cold reset is complete.
3, press "go" to return the printer online "ready " appearson the display.
Little bit complicated but is easy ,hope can take care your problem, GOOD LUCK! Let me know the resolve please!
HAVE A HAPPY HOLIDAY !!!

My Lexmark Z816 cannot communicate with comupter. Have worked through troubleshoot to device manager and was told USB Root Hub is fine but USB Host Controler not activated. How do I activate it?

Please follow the steps below to enable USB host controller:
1. On your computer, go to Start menu. 2. Right-click on My Computer. 3. Click on Properties. 4. In the pop-up windows, go to Hardware tab. 5. Click on Device Manager. 6. In the Device Manager window, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. 7. From the list of USB host controllers, look for any in the list with a warning (?, !, X) sign (typically indicates a missing or improperly installed piece of software). Right-click on the item and select enable.

Another quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

I hope this helps.

When i try to print something a window pops up that says "communication not available" ive tried restarting, unpluging the power cord and the usb cord...nothing seems to work

This problem could be caused by several factors - incorrect USB port selection, your printer is not set as your default printer, firewall, etc. This article in the Lexmark website: Communication Not Available' Error Message and Print Job Stalls in Print Queue will help you determine the cause and resolve your printing issue.

Keeps telling me to enable bidirectional communication

Hi:

When you first loaded the print driver there should have been a box to check to enable bidirectional communication. Most Lexmark printers require this to work properly

My Lexmark x5495 will not print. I get the message enable bidirectional communication. I am running XP operating system. What is the solution?

Go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes > right click on the Lexmark 5400 Series print object > Properties > Lexmark 5400 Series Properties window pops up, click on Ports tab > place a check mark in Enable bidirectional support by clicking in the box beside it. Hit Apply and click Ok to save the settings. Try to print. If problem persists, disconnect the printer usb cable from computer, uninstall the software completely by clicking on Windows logo Start menu > All Programs > Lexmark 5400 Series folder > Tools > Uninstall. Restart pc. To reinstalI, I recommend you use the software you can download from the Lexmark website. Just click on this link: http://bit.ly/cgn74X. Download and install the software.
