I just got a dell e172fpb monitor from a friend that doesn't work

This monitor gives a flashing green button and acts similarly to a strobe light with no picture showing up.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

If the monitor power light is on or flashing, but nothing displays, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor needs replaced.

hi, extremely common problem for dell 17 in monitors. the capacitors and transistors on the power board internally have gone bad. to get repaired, it may cost 40-50 at a shop. i have repaired these in the past and they always come out well for at least 3 more years. may want to find another monitor though. if you would like steps on how to repair, let me know and i will find my old repair threads to give to you.

The DELL E172FPb LCD Monitor (switch light flicks green)scr black

You need to open it up and inspect the componente inside, look at the fuse and the transistors in the inverter circuits first, also look for sign of over heating on the board, see pictures here for the guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

There are two possibilities, one is bad caps in the power supply, number two is shorted out transistors (P/N c5706/5707) in the inverter circuits. Dell 17" lcd manufactured 2004 CN-0F5035-64180-48G-1X2S wont turn on. power button flashes green, no display will come on. can i get a repleacement from dell? i bought it from a friend.

Dell will not give you a replacment since you were not the one whom purchased it...if you were they would only give you one if it was still under warranty.

Can you try hooking it upto another tower to see if the monitor is at fault and not the PC.

Did you friend show you that it was running before you bought it. Perhaps he sold you a monitor that was about hit the end.
