A few solutions: 1. Have you tried to clean your cd/dvd lens? Probably your lens is getting weak.
2. For advance user: Locate, and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - Look for DVD/CD-ROM drives and delete the subkey. - Restart your machine.
3. Let Microsoft FixIt help you: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us
Worst case - Get a new CD/DVD-ROM for the replacement.
The CD/DVD Driver is an Operating System generic Driver and it can be re-installed from the Device Manager. Please press with Window Logo and the R Keys on your Keyboard to open the Run window, then type devmgmt.msc and press the Enter Key to open the Device Manager. After that, on the Open Device Manager window, please click the "Actions" menu and select the Scan for Hardware changes option. This will re-install the CD/DVD Drive Driver in the Computer.
Hope this helps.

Y510 uses the slot loading DVD, right? It's not software problem... that Matsushita DVD drive on Y510 and Y410 are faulty... they work only for a few months then always have trouble burning. I've seen many complaints on Lenovo support forum... I'm having the same problem with my Y410 too... I had to use USB to install Windows 7.
it looks like you need an update for your DVD driver (Optiarc drives )
use the lenovo support site to get the latest driver for your notebook, http://lenovo.com/us/en/index.html
