The barrel was made in 1982 according to the number you have given which is the closest year to the first year that the model 78 was manufactured 1984 but the C prefix could also be for the month of April
So unless you put all the letters preceeding the number string a date would be a guess
Take a look at website
Remington society.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes on how to read a Remington serial number

rifles manufactured after 1921 will have a date code consisting of 2 letters stamped on the left side of the barrel near the receiver.
rifles made between 1901 and 1921, ask a question about the serial number of your rifle on the... Remington Society Forum to get a date of manufacture.
Remington serial number records are not publically available to determine a date of manufacture some old gunsmiths have the info but are not publishing it publically ie the internet.

How do I determine the Age of a Remington 1100 12gauge?

Here is a website that has a list for the codes on the barrel to help you determine the month and year your firearm was manufactured. They do note that Remington reuses the same letters approx every 26 years so there may be more than one possible date.

I would take serial number to nearest gun shop. Ask them to reference the serial. While your there, purchase some ammo, and camo.
