When you say 'vintage', are we talking 35mm or roll film ? If 35mm, looks as if the interlock between shutter release and wind-on spool needs adjusting, but no idea if this is possible.
The r series are notorious for inferior parts, first have a CLA done by a professional, and if a (clean, lubricate, adjustment) doesnt solve the problem then actual repairs will be necessary for repair by a qualified Leica Service Center
the self timer may be the issue. the self timer if not all the way released will not allow you to advance to the next frame :( i sometimes have to push it back to the start position
mandie22,
on this model two strokes are needed to fully advance the film and to set the counter to the next #,
so advance the lever, bring it back and advance again.
with electronic cameras, it is the control circuitry. send it for service. your service agent probably will replace the complete pcb as they don't know or wouldn't care to diagnose which minor component went wrong.
